PREPARATION AND OPERATING

PREPARATION FOR USE
2.1
The preparation procedure is required only when first using a newly delivered Decade
Divider Unit, or before operating at a new location where the a.c. supply voltage
may differ from that previously used.
CAUTION:
A.C. mains voltages are exposed if the instrument case is removed
with power lead connected
to
the supply.
(1)
Check that the instrument POWER switch is at loffl.
(2)
Check that the power connecting lead is fitted with the correct plug for the
local a.c. supply outlet. The lead is colour coded:-
Brown (or red) •••.••••••••.•.•...
Li ne
Blue (or black) ••••••••••••••.••• Neutral
Green/Yellow (or green) •••••••••• Earth (ground)

Ensure that the rating of the mains fuse on the rear panel is correct for the
local a.c. supply.

Set the voltage selector on the rear panel
to
the appropriate position for the
local supply voltage.

Connect the power lead to the 3-pin power plug on the rear panel and
to
the
a.c. supply outlet.
(6)
Put the front panel POWER switch
to
'on l and note that the adjacent amber
lamp illuminates. This lamp operates from the
+5'1
and -SV supplies and thus
provides a useful check on these outputs from the power unit.
(7)
If there is evidence of d.c.
fuse~failure
remove the instrument case and
refer to Table 4.1 (page 4.1). Fuse positions are illustrated in Fig. 2.2 or 2.3
at the end of Chapter 4.
