Chec k ing and filling
If the brake fluid level falls
considerably

Do not continue to operate the ve-
hicle . The complete brake system shou ld be
thoroughly checked by an authorized Aud i
dea ler or othe r qualified facility and t he cause
corrected. If the bra ke fluid level is t oo low,
the bra ke warning/ind icator ligh t will illum i-
nate . Contact an authorized Audi dea ler im-
mediately.
Changing brake fluid
Hove the broke fluid changed by on experi-
enced technician.
Brake fl uid abso rbs mois tur e from the a ir. If
the water content in the bra ke fluid is too
high, corros ion in t he brake sys t em may result
after a period of t ime . The boiling point of t he
brake fluid will also decrease considerab ly and
decrease braking per formance.
Therefore, t he brake flu id mus t be changed
every two years. Always use new brake fluid
which conforms to Fede ral Motor Vehicle
Standard "FMVSS 116 DOT 4".
The brake flu id rese rvoir can be difficul t t o
reach, therefo re, we recommend that you
have the brake fluid changed by your autho r-
ized Audi dealer. Your dea ler has the correct
too ls, the right brake f luid and the know-how
to do this for you.

propriate bra ke fluid. Observe t hese pre-

Always check with your a uthorized Audi
dealer to make s ure you are using the
correct brake fl uid . The correct type of
brake flu id is also ind icate d on the
brake f luid rese rvoir.
- The brake fl uid must be new . Heavy use
of the brakes can cause a vapo r lock if
the brake fluid is left in the system too
long . This can se riously affect the effi -
ciency of t he brakes as well as your
safe ty. This could resu lt in a n accide nt.

recomme nd t hat you have th e brake flu id

Battery
General information
Your vehicle is equipped with a specia l bat -
tery, an
ACM battery.
This battery is located
in t he luggage compartment
and must be re-
placed with an origina l equipment battery.
Under normal opera ti ng condit ions, the bat-
te ry is maintenance-free.
Have the battery checked when you take your
vehicle in for se rvice . You a re well advised to
replace a battery that is o lde r t han 5 years .
Disconnecting the battery terminals
Some vehicle functions (power window reg u-
lators, for example) are lost if the battery te r-
mina ls are disconnected. These functions have
to be relearned after the battery termina ls are
connected aga in . To prevent t his, t he battery
shou ld only be disconne cted from the ve hicle
ele ct rical syst em when abso lutely ne cessary
for rep a irs.
Vehicles not driven for long periods
If you are go ing to let your vehicle stand for a
long time a nd not drive it, you should remem-
