Chec k ing and filling
- If your skin has come in contact with the
engine oil, you must subsequent ly
cleanse it thoroughly.
- The oil level must not be above range

Contact an authorized dea lership to draw
off oil, if necessary.
- Audi does not recommend the use of oil
addit ives. They may damage the engine
and adversely affect you r New Vehicle
War ranty .

For the sake of the environment
- Under no circumstances can the oil come
in contact with the sewage network or
the soil.
- Observe and follow lega l regu lations
when disposing of empty oil containers.
Changing the engine oil
We recommend that have your oil changed by
an authorized Audi dealer or a qualified serv-
ice station .
Before you check anything in the engine com-
partment,
always read and heed all WARN·

The engine oil must be changed according to
the intervals spec ified in your Warranty &
Maintenance booklet . This is very important
because the lubricating prope rties of oil di-
minish gradua lly dur ing normal vehicle use .
Under some circumstances the engine oil
should be changed more frequently . Change
oil more often if you drive most ly short dis-
tances , ope rate the vehicle in dusty areas or
under predominantly stop -and-go t raffic con-
ditions, or have your vehicle where tempe ra-
tures rema in below free zing for ext ended pe-
riods.
Dete rge nt add it ives in the oil will ma ke fresh
oil look dark after the eng ine has been run-
ning for a shor t t ime. This is normal and is not
a reason t o change t he oil more often than
recommended.
Because of the problem of proper dispos al,
along wit h the specia l tools and necessa ry ex-
pert ise req uired, we st rongly recommend tha t
you have your oil changed by an authorized
Audi dealer
or a qualified service station.
If you choose to change your oil your self ,
please note the following important informa -
tion:

WARNING

To reduce the risk of pe rsonal inj ury if you
must change the eng ine oil in your vehicle
yourself:
- Wear eye protection.
- To reduce the risk of burns from hot en-
gine oil, let the engine cool down to the
touch.
- When removing the oil dra in plug with
your fingers, stay as far away as possib le.
Always keep your forearm parallel to the
ground to help prevent hot oil from run·
ning down your arm.
- Drain the oil into a container designed
for this purpose, one large enough to
hold at least the tota l amount of oil in
your engine.
- Engine oil is poisonous . Keep it well out
of the reach of children.
- Continu ous contact wit h used eng ine oil
is harmful to your skin. Always protec t
your skin by washing oil off tho roughly
wit h soap and wate r.

Note
Never mix oil additives with your engine
oil. These additives can damage your en·
gine and adversely affect your Audi Limit-
ed New Vehicle Warranty.

you know where you can prope rly dispose
of t he used oil.
- Always dispose of used eng ine oil proper -
ly. Do not dump it on garden soil,
