Program Change Data
is transmitted
a)
on
the
manual
performance
transmission
channel
whenever a program change (voice selection) is carried
out,
b)
on all channels when the style is switched (because this
changes the various Auto Accompaniment voices), with
the style number itself being output on channel 16, and
c)
whenever the rhythm is started.
Ifa MELODY memory bank is selected while the rhythm
is playing, the corresponding program change data is
also transmitted.
Note:
The program change number transmitted on the appro-
priate channel with correspond to the number as given in
the table in "Additional Information".
Control Change Data
Vibrato, Sustain and Portamento
ON/OFF
information is
transmitted as part of the manual performance and MELODY
memory data. In other words, any changes you make (or have
recorded) concerning these settings, such as turning Sustain
on or off, are transmitted to the connected MIDI equipment.
Pitch Bend Change Data
This is transmitted for every channel. The data value is cal-
culated for each channel according to that channel's bend
range and the bender position, under the assumption that the
bend range of the receiving equipment is set to + /— 1 octave.
Memory Bulk Dump
@ Overview
All data stored in the PortaSound's internal RAM — the five
DIGITAL
SYNTHESIZER
voice banks, the SONG
ME-
MORY
banks and the CUSTOM
DRUMMER
pattern —
can be dumped to an external MIDI memory device (or
another PSS-580, PSS-780) as system exclusive data.
System exclusive messages are reserved for use by individual
manufacturers for communication between specific devices.
Only certain YAMAHA
equipment or computers etc. that
recognize the YAMAHA ID can accept or transmit such data.
When
the PortaSound PSS-780 receives system exclusive
messages with the corresponding ID code, this data is stored
in the internal memories so that their settings become the
same as on the transmitting equipment. During this process,
the PortaSound is not operative.
Though Digital Synthesizer, Melody Memory Chord Memory
and Custom Drummer data all form independent parts of
the system exclusive data, they are always transmitted to-
gether as explained below.
For details on the exclusive data format, see p. Add-1.
Before carrying out the following steps, make sure the re-
ceiving equipment is set for MIDI
data reception.
(No
channel specification is necessary.)
