BRAKE
DESCRIPTION
The brake engages and holds the load when it is in the
POWER OFF condition. it automatically releases when
power is applied.
Always disconnect power before work-
ing on or near the brake motor or its
connected load. If the power disconnect
point is out of sight, lock it in the open
position and tag to prevent unexpected
application of power.
When working on the brake, be sure the lid is completely
secured or blocked so as not to cause injury to surround-
ing personnel or damage to property.
The exterior of the motor or brake may
be hot enough to burn.
MAINTENANCE
As the rotating disc wears, the air gap at increases,
increasing the stopping time of the brake. Before the air
gap exceeds 1/16" maximum (measured on the center-
line of the set screw), adjust the air gap.
When
total wear on the rotating disc reaches
0.04",
replace the rotating disc (see Chapter 6, "Brake').
Delay in adjusting the air gap will result
in a loss of torque and/or coil burnout.
Wear Adjustment
1.
Remove the cover (see Figure 5-14).
2,
Press in and hold the solenoid plunger against the
solenoid.
3.
Measure the air gap between the set screw and the
pressure plate.
4.
Turn the set screw clockwise until the set screw air
gap is approximately 1/16" maximum.
Observe
motor starting characteristics.
The
motor
should start quickly. If not, increase the air gap by
tuming the set screw 1/8 turn counterclockwise.
