Chapter 4: Commissioning requirements describe which steps are to be taken by the installation organisation before a commissioning engineer can be sent from Consilium. Chapter 5: Guidelines for fire alarm installations gives some general recommendations to be considered when installing a fire alarm system.
Chapter 1: General description Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Chapter 1: General description The CS4000 is a state of the art analogue addressable fire detection system designed to meet all major marine and industrial requirements. Special care has been taken to ergonomics, user friendliness with its logical self-instructing operator panel guiding the user to the various functions available.
Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Chapter 2: Installation The different parts of the CS4000 fire alarm system, the central unit, the control units, repeaters and the loop units, should first be mechanically installed. The different loop units are thereafter electrically installed and set up according to the definition of the loops.
Min. 2 x 0.3 mm Loop: Min. 2 x 0.3 mm Sub-loop: However, Consilium recommends using standard unshielded cable min 2 x 0.75 mm Loop lengths The length of a loop or a sub-loop depends on the following three parameters, type of cable, shielded or unshielded cable and power consumption.

Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Important notice: Set the address switch on each loop unit before connecting them to the loop. If an address unit is used, set its ID switch too. See Setting the address of the loop units later in this chapter and also Appendix A and B.

Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Connection to ZB, zone board Example of a detector zone with conventional non-addressable loop units...
Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Test the cable The cable should be tested for proper function after all the loop units are connected and before the cable is connected to the central unit. The cable can only be tested if all short circuit isolators are bypassed.
Page 14
Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Test 2: Test for short circuits. Measure the resistance between the + pole and the - pole. Connect an ohm-meter between the two poles. The measured value should be more than 100kΩ for a cable with a maximum length of 2 km.
Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Setting alarm levels for conventional zones The CS4000 system can be programmed to distinguish between fire alarms generated by a detector or by a manual call point. This is done by current-measuring on the conventional loops.
Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Setting the address on loop units. All addressable loop units such as detectors, manual call points etc connected to the loop board LB must be given an address between 1-254 to be operational. The loop units located on the same physical loop must all have unique addresses.
Page 17
Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Addressable Timers The addressable timers are located on the detector loop in the same way as any loop unit. For UR-2/UR-2K type timers, three address DIP switches should be set: 1. The loop address for the timer itself.
Chapter 2: Installation Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Electrical installation, Central equipment Terminal layout Since most systems are customer designed there exists no standard for how the different boards are to be connected in the system. See Appendix E for more information.
4. The system is delivered either with a complete system configuration or a test configuration. Consilium recommends that the addressable detector loops are tested before connection to the central unit with the test device SE3000, to verify the cable status and the addresses of the loop units.
Chapter 3: Verification Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 6. One loop is now verified and tested. Continue with the next loop. Repeat step 3-5 for the rest of the loops. 7. Make a fire detector test of the complete fire alarm system. See Testing later on in this chapter.
Page 21
Chapter 3: Verification Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Reset the test mode After testing it is important set the tested zone in normal condition again. Make sure that there are no detectors or manual call points still in alarm before leaving the test mode.
Chapter 3: Verification Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Trouble shooting The system will not power up The rectifier board has an in-built change over function between the two 115/230VAC inputs (main and emergency). If there is only one 115/230VAC power supply available, it shall always be connected to “emergency”.
Chapter 3: Verification Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Wrong number of loop units (only for addressable loops on LB). If a limited number of loop units do not answer, the problem may depend on one of the causes listed below. When the correct number of loop units is installed, return to Loops, point 6.
Chapter 3: Verification Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Cable break No loop units are answering. - The cable is broken before the first loop unit if no answer is received on a single fed loop. - The cable is broken before the first loop unit and after the last loop unit if the loop is a double fed loop.
Chapter 3: Verification Installation Manual Salwico CS4000 Earth fault The CS4000 control unit will inform about which loop or central that has an earth fault. Examine the faulty loop to locate the earth fault. See Chapter 2: Test the cable, test 3 for more details.
Loop Requirements The following specification is a checklist of requirements on the loops for Salwico CS4000 fire alarm. The specification shall be used by the installation organisation of loop units and cabling. Start with part A, continue with part B and then part C. Part B must be used once for every loop.

10.Fax each signed protocol in one copy to Consilium authorised representative and one copy to Consilium Marine, Gothenburg, Sweden. 11.When all loops are tested and all protocols are signed, a Consilium service engineer can be asked to come for the final control and adjustment of the system.

Summary The following document must be filled in and faxed to Consilium +46 - 31 710 78 00 and your local Consilium representative in your country before commissioning of the system starts: ”Address list/test report”, appendix A, one for each loop.
Mark each loop unit with zone and address number. Suitable marking location for a detector is on its base. Special adhesive labels for marking are available from Consilium. Please refer to the data sheet of each unit for detailed information about connection and installation etc.
