Driving and Operating
To Turn Off ESC
ESC OFF Indicator Light
By pressing the ESC OFF switch, you can
turn off either the entire ESC system or only
the ASR function.
If ASR and/or ESC is off when the vehicle is
turned off, ASR and/or ESC will turn on
automatically when the vehicle is restarted.
After the vehicle is started, press
approximately five seconds to turn ECS off,
which will also turn off ASR. This will cause
the ESC OFF indicator light to turn on.
To turn the ESC function back on, press
again for approximately one second. This
will also turn ASR on again.
ESC Operation
ESC Warning Light
When the engine control switch is turned to
the ON position, the ESC warning light, ASR
OFF indicator light, and ESC OFF indicator
light turn on and then go out after
approximately 3 seconds. This means that
ESC is operating normally.
The ESC warning light will begin flashing
for
when ESC activates during vehicle operation.
When the ESC is operating, the brake pedal
may wiggle or feel tight. In addition, the
vehicle body may vibrate or you may hear
operating sounds. This is normal for ESC
operation.
ESC is not a device that enables
driving under conditions exceeding
safe limits. Always drive safely.
Warning

Warning (Continued)
Always concentrate on driving safely
and do not be overconfident just
because the vehicle is equipped with
ESC, do not drive too fast or turn the
steering wheel too sharply.
On an icy or otherwise slippery road,
the grip of the tires decreases, which
also reduces steering control. ESC does
not increase the road grip of tires, but
it does improve the vehicle starting
and accelerating performance on a
slippery road surface when compared
to a model without ESC. Especially
when starting the vehicle on a
slippery road, start up slowly as you
would in a vehicle without ESC. Even
with ESC operating, suddenly or
erratically depressing the accelerator
pedal or maneuvering the steering
wheel can cause you to lose control of
your vehicle. Always drive at a safe
speed well matched to the road
surface, environmental conditions, and
the conditions of the vehicle tires.
