gine and transmission parts which an owner can
perform .
Maintenance, adjustments and repairs usua lly re-
quire spec ial tools, testing devices and other
equ ipment available to specially tra ined work-
shop personnel in order to assure proper per-
formance, reliab ility and safety of the vehicle and
its many systems .
Improper maintenance, adjustments and repairs
can impair the operation and reliability of your
vehicle and even void your vehicle warranty .
Therefore, proof of servicing in accordance with
the ma intenance sched ule may be a condition for
upho lding a possible warranty claim made with in
the warranty per iod.
Above all, operational safety can be adversely af-
fected, creating unnecessary risks for you and
your passengers .
If
in doubt about any se rvicing, have it done by
your author ized Audi dealer or any other properly
equ ipped and qualified workshop. We st rongly
urge you to give your aut horized Audi dealer the
opport unity to perform all schedu led mainte-
nance and necessary repairs . Your dealer has the
facilities, original parts and trained specialists to
keep your vehicle runn ing proper ly.
Performing limited mainten ance yourself
The following pages describe a limited number of
proced ures which can be performed on your vehi-
cle with ordinary tools, should the need arise and
trained personne l be unavailable. Before per-
forming any of these procedures, always thor-
oughly read all of the applicable text and careful-
ly follow the instructions given. Always rigorously
observe the

provided .

WARNING
-
- Serious personal inj ury may occur as a result
of improperly performed maintenance, ad-
justments or repai rs.
- Always be extremely careful when working
on the vehicle. Always follow commonly ac-
cepted safety pract ices and general com-
mon sense. Never risk pe rsonal injury.
- Do not attempt any of the mainte nance,
checks or repairs described on the following
pages if you are not fully familiar with these
or other procedures wit h respect to t he vehi-
cle, or are unce rt ain how t o proceed .
- Do not do any work wit hout the proper tools
and eq uipment. Have t he necessary work
done by your aut horized Audi dealer or an-
other prope rly equippe d and qua lified work-
shop .
- Always remove the ignition key before any-
one gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your vehicle with safety
stands if it is necessary to work underneath
the vehicle. The jack* is not adequate for
this purpose and could collapse causing se-
rious personal injury.
- If you must work unde rneath the vehicle
wit h the wheels on t he gro und, always make
sure the vehicle is on level ground, that the
wheels are always securely blocked and that
the engine cannot be started .
- Always make sure the transmission selecto r
lever is in "N" (Neutral) (5 tronic) or Neutral
(manual transm ission) and the hand brake is
firmly applied.

For the sake of the environment
- Changing the engine settings will adversely
affect emiss ion levels. This is detrimental to
the environment and increases fuel con-
sumption.
- Always observe environmenta l reg ulations
when dispos ing of old engine oil, used brake
fluid, dirty eng ine coolan t , spent bat ter ies
or worn out tires.
