I
NTRODUCTION
1. The Multi-Tube Vortexer is used to prepare samples for testing. It operates by mixing tubes just prior to testing. The Multi-tube Vortexer comes with
a connector plug that is inserted into the IEC connector on the back of the unit first, then it can be plugged into a properly grounded outlet. The
120v unit plugs into a 120 volt, 50/60 Hz source. The 230v unit plugs into a 230 volt, 50/60 Hz source. Place the Vortexer on a sturdy work surface.
2. On the 230v Vortexer a "Power Switch" is located on the back of the unit. The left knob controls the "Motor Speed". Set this knob to "Off" at the
full counter-clockwise position. The middle knob controls the "Timer". Set this knob to "Off" at the full counter-clockwise position. The right switch
selects continuous "Run" in the up position. "Standby" in the center position, and starts the "Timer" operation when held momentarily in the down
position. Set this switch in the center "Standby" position.
3. The Vortexer is now ready to operate. Loosen both knob screws in the support plate. Lift the plate up, clear of the work area. The knob screws may
be tightened to hold it in place or if desired it may be swung out of the way. To do this, lift until the plate comes off the short right post and the
left knob is up into the circular groove around the top of the left post. Screw the left knob screw in the circular groove but not quite tight. In this
condition the support plate may be swung around the left post and out of the way.
4. Fill the tubes to be vortexed and place them in the correct size tube rack. Best results will be obtained if all tubes are filled to the same level, and
not exceeding half of the tube capacity. Distribute tubes uniformly throughout the tube rack. Always be sure that a tube is in each of the four cor-
ner holes in the tube rack to properly hold the support plate. Empty tubes may be used for this purpose. Lower the support plate onto both posts
and down on top of the tubes. Let its weight rest on the tubes but do not press down. Tighten both knob screws securely.

PERATING
NSTRUCTIONS
1. Turn the "Speed" knob on but leave at the #1 position. Move the right switch up to the continuous "Run" position. The Vortexer will start. Increase
the motor speed by turning the left knob clockwise until the desired speed is reached. Always use the slowest suitable speed. To stop vortexing,
move the right switch to the center "Standby" position.
2. For automatic timed operation, adjust the motor speed as above, then set the "Timer" knob to the desired time 0 to 60 seconds. Depress the right
switch briefly to "Timer" position and release. The Vortexer will run for the selected time and shut off automatically. To repeat for the same time,
simply depress the "Timer" switch again. To interrupt an automatic timing cycle before it is complete, turn the timer knob to OFF (full counter-
clockwise).
3. When operating the Vortexer, use the power switch to start and stop operations. Leave the "Speed" knob on. When the Vortexer is not being used
turn the "Speed" knob to OFF. On the 230 volt vortexer turn the "Power Switch" at the back of the unit to OFF.
4. To Disconnect the Multi-Tube Vortexer from power mains, unplug the line cord.
IMPORTANT: This unit is designed for intermittent use only. Do not operate this unit for more than two hours at any one time.
