Starting the Engine
1. Move the speed-control lever to the N
position.
2. Engage the parking brake; refer to
Parking Brake (page
3. Move the PTO-engagement lever to the O
position (Figure 21).
4. Move the throttle lever midway between the
S and F positions.

5. For EFI machines: On a cold engine, push
the choke lever forward into the C
position. On a warm engine, leave the choke in
the O /O position.

6. Turn the ignition key to the S
(Figure 16). When the engine starts, release
the key.
Important:
continuously for more than 10 seconds at
a time. If the engine does not start, wait 60
seconds between starting attempts. Failure
to follow these guidelines can burn out the
starter motor.
Note:
Additional starting cycles may be
required when starting the engine for the first
time after the fuel system has been without fuel
completely.
7. If the choke is in the C

as the engine warms up.
