BASIC FEATURE SET APPLICATIONS (continued)

SELECTIVE Alert / Individual Call

Definition:
FleetSync protocol will allow a user to select and alert a radio that a call has been
received. This will keep the other radio users in the same talk group from hearing
unwanted radio conversations. This FleetSync feature is similar to, and should be used
in the same way as Two Tone paging. The radio once alerted will sound an alert tone or
initiate the Horn Honk feature.
NOTE: Because of the limitations of low speed signaling such as LTR or CTCSS
this feature does not lend itself well to being used as a direct connect private call
feature.
Usage
Allows a user to selectively alert an individual by selecting the Alpha Tag from the ID
list or by manually dialing the seven digit fleet & unit ID from the front panel of the
radio.
Application
A utility company dispatcher wants to call one unit in a fleet. With SelCall, the
dispatcher selects an alpha tag associated with a unique Fleet/ID number to contact a
single workman and not the rest of the fleet, as shown in Figure 2. During transmission,
the receiving unit will display the alpha tag associated
with the base station's Fleet/ID number.
NOTES:
1. Although the illustration above shows a mobile base station originating the call, any fleet
portable or mobile unit can make SelCalls.
2. Signaling "AND/OR" in a FleetSync SelCall is no different from the other selective calling
formats (e.g., 2-tone and DTMF decode) with respect to squelch and speaker un-muting
operation. Signaling "AND/OR" should be set appropriately for the application:
a. Use OR if fleet units are to un-mute normally for all voice traffic per QT/DQT/LTR signaling
only and SelCall is used to set off alert responses in a particular unit or groups of units
when needed.
b. Use AND if fleet units are to remain muted until both valid QT/DQT/LTR signaling and a
SelCall are received (i.e., the units are operated in a selective call "page" mode).
