The heat sink might be very hot. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer and wait several
minutes until the computer is cool.
Replacement procedure
1. Turn off the computer and remove all connected devices and cables.
2. Remove the computer stand cover. See "Computer stand cover" on page 60.
3. Remove the computer stand. See "Computer stand" on page 60.
4. Remove the optical drive. See "Optical drive" on page 61.
5. Remove the computer cover. See "Computer cover" on page 65.
6. Remove the system board frame. See "System board frame" on page 71.
7. Remove the heat sink. See "Heat sink" on page 78.
8. Remove four screws and then remove the GPU board.
9. Install the new GPU board and secure it with screws.
10. Reinstall the removed parts in reverse order of the removal steps mentioned above.
11. Reconnect all disconnected cables to the computer and reconnect the power cord to the electric outlet.

System board

Prerequisite
Before you start, read Chapter 1 "Important safety information" on page 1 and print the following
instructions.
Avoid contact with hot components inside the computer. During operation, some components become hot
enough to burn the skin. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer, disconnect power, and
wait approximately 10 minutes for the components to cool.
The heat-sink-and-fan assembly and microprocessor might be very hot. Before you open the computer
cover, turn off the computer and wait several minutes until the computer is cool.
Notes:
• Each computer has a unique Vital Product Data (VPD) code stored in the nonvolatile memory on the
system board. After you replace the system board, the VPD must be updated.
