General Power Tool Safety Warnings

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work Area Safety

  1. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  2. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
  3. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical Safety

Personal Safety

  1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of innattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
  2. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
  3. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch/trigger is in the off-position before picking up or carrying the tool.Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
  4. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
  5. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tol in unexpected situations.
  6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
  7. If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these devices can reduce dust-related hazards.
  8. Only use safety equipment that has been approved by an appropriate standards agency. Unapproved safety equipment may not provide adequate protection. Eye protection must be ANSI-approved and breathing protection must be NIOSH-approved for the specific hazards in the work area.

Device Use and Care

  1. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
  2. Do not use the power tool if the switch/ trigger does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch/trigger is dangerous and must be repaired
  3. Turn off the switch from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
  4. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
  5. Maintain power tools. check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
  6. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting dges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
  7. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

Service

Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts.
This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

Safety Warnings Common for Grinding, Sanding, Polishing, or Abrasive Cutting-off Operations

    This power tool is intended to function as a grinder, sander, polisher, or cut-off tool. Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
  2. Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the tool manufacturer. Just because the accessory can be attached to your power tool, it does not assure safe operation
  3. The RATED SpEED of the accessories must be at least equal to the operating speed setting marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their RATED SPEED can break and fly apart.
  4. The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must be within the capacity rating of your power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately controlled.
  5. The arbour size of wheels, sanding drums or any other accessory must properly fit the spindle or collet of the power tool. Accessories that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool will run out of balance, vibrate excessively and may cause loss of control.
  6. Mandrel MOUNTED WHEELS, sanding drums, cutters or other accessories must be fully inserted into the collet or chuck. If the mandrel is insufficiently held and/or the overhang of the wheel is too long, the MOUNTED WHEEL may become loose and be ejected at high velocity.
  7. Do not use a damaged accessory. Before each use inspect the accessory such as abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, sanding drum for cracks, tear or excess wear, wire brush for loose or cracked wires.
    If power tool or accessory is dropped, inspect for damage or install and undamaged accessory. After inspecting and installing and accessory, position yourself and bystanders away from the plance of the rotating accessory and run the power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute. Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.
  8. Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtrating particles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.
  9. Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyone entering thework area must wear personal protective equipment. Fragments of workpiece or of a broken accessory may fly away and cause injury beyond immediate area of operation.
  10. shock hazard Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
  11. Always hold the tool firmly in your hand(s) during the start-up. The reaction torque of the motor, as it accelerates to full speed, can cause the tool twist.
  12. Use clamps to support workpiece whenever practical. Never hold a small workpiece in one hand and the tool in the other hand while in use. Clamping a small workpiece allows you to use your hand(s) to control the tool. Round material such as dowel rods, pipes or tubing have a tendency to roll while being cut, and may

  14. After changing the bits or making any adjustments, make sure the collet nut, chuck or any other adjustment devices are securely tightened. Loose adjustment devices can unexpectedly shift, causing loss of control, loose rotating components will be violently thrown.
  15. Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact with the spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into your body.
  16. Regularly clean the power tool's air vents. The motor's fan will draw the dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause electrical hazards.
  17. Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials. Sparks could ignite these materials.

  19. Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important safety information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement.
  20. Avoid unintentional starting. Prepare to begin work before turning on the tool.
  21. Do not depress the spindle lock when starting or during operation.
  22. Do not leave the tool unattended when the switch is on. Turn off the tool, before leaving.
  23. Use clamps (not included) or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may lead to loss of control and personal injury.
  24. Contains Li-Ion battery. Battery must be recycled or disposed of properly. Do not open, crush, heat above 140°F or incinerate.

  1. The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.

Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating wheel, backing pad, brush or any other accessory. Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling of the rotating accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolled power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the accessory's rotation at the point of the binding.
For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the wheel that is entering into the pinch point can dig into the surface of the material causing the wheel to climb out or kick out. The wheel may either jump toward or away from the operator, depending on direction of the wheel's movement at the point of pinching. Abrasive wheels may also break under these conditions.
Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.

  1. Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. The operator can control kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken.
  2. Use special care when working corners, sharp edges etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the accessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have a tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause loss of control or kickback.
  3. Do not attach a toothed saw blade. Such blades create frequent kickback and loss of control.
  4. Always feed the bit into the material in the same direction as the cutting edge is exiting from the material (which is the same direction as the chips are thrown). Feeding the tool in the wrong direction causes the cutting edge of the bit to climb out of the work and pull the tool in the direction of this feed.
  5. When using rotary files, cut-off wheels, high-speed cutters or tungsten carbide cutters, always have the work securely clamped. These wheels will grab if they become slightly canted in the groove, and can kickback. When a cut-off wheel grabs, the wheel itself usually breaks. When a rotary file, high-speed cutter or tungsten carbide cutter grabs, it may jump from the groove and you could lose control of the tool.

Safety Warnings Specific for Sanding Operations

Do not use excessively oversized sanding disc paper. Follow manufacturer's recommendations when selecting sanding paper. Larger sanding paper extending beyond the sanding pad presents a laceration hazard and may cause snagging, tearing of the disc or kickback.

Safety Warnings Specific For Abrasive Cutting-Off Operations

  1. Use only wheel types that are recommended for your power tool and only for recommended applications.
    For example: do not grind with the side of a cut-off wheel. Abrasive cut-off wheels are intended for peripheral grinding, side forces applied to these wheeles may cause them to shatter.
  2. For threaded abrasive cones and plugs use only undamaged wheel mandrels with an unrelieved shoulder flange that are of correct size and length. Proper mandrels will reduce the possibility of breakage
  3. Do not "jam" a cut-off wheel or apply excessive pressure. Do not attempt to make an excessive depth of cut. Overstressing the loading and susceptibility to twisting or snagging of the wheel in the cut and the possibility of kickback or wheel breakage.
  4. Do not position your hand in line with and behind the rotating wheel. When the wheel, at the point of operation, is moving away from your hand, the possible kickback may propel the spinning wheel and the power tool directly at you.

Safety Warnings Specific For Wire Brushing Operations

  1. Be aware that wire bristles are thrown by the brush even during ordinary operation. Do not overstress the wires by applying excessive load to the brush. The wire bristles can easily penetrate light clothing and/or skin.
  2. Allow brushes to run at operating speed for at least one minute before using them. During this time no one is to stand in front or in line with the brush. Loose bristles or wires will be discharged during the run-in time.
  3. Direct the discharge of the spinning wire brush away from you. Small particles and tiny wire fragments may be discharged at high velocity during the use of these brushes and may become imbedded in your skin.

Vibration Safety

This tool vibrates during use. Repeated or long-term exposure to vibration may cause temporary or permanent physical injury, particularly to the hands, arms and shoulders.
To reduce the risk of vibration-related injury:

  1. Anyone using vibrating tools regularly or for an extended period should first be examined by a doctor and then have regular medical check-ups to ensure medical problems are not being caused or worsened from use. Pregnant women or people who have impaired blood circulation to the hand, past hand injuries, nervous system disorders, diabetes, or Raynaud's Disease should not use this tool. If you feel any medical or physical symptoms related to vibration (such as tingling, numbness, and white or blue fingers), seek medical advice as soon as possible.
  2. Do not smoke during use. Nicotine reduces the blood supply to the hands and fingers, increasing the risk of vibration-related injury.
  3. Wear suitable gloves to reduce the vibration effects on the user.
  4. Use tools with the lowest vibration when there is a choice between different processes.
  5. Include vibration-free periods each day of work.
  6. Grip tool as lightly as possible (while still keeping safe control of it). Let the tool do the work.
  7. To reduce vibration, maintain the tool as explained in this manual. If any abnormal vibration occurs, stop use immediately.

Grounding


TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK AND DEATH FROM INCORRECT GROUNDING: Vheck with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the power cord plug provided with the charger. Never remove the grounding prong from the plug. Do not use the charger if the power cord or plug is damaged. If damaged, have it repaired by a service facility before use. If the plug will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

Tool Set Up


TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM ACCIDENTAL OPERATION:
Turn the power Switch of the tool off, wait for the motor to stop, before adjusting tool or installing accessories.

TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM ACCESSORY FAILURE:
Only use accessories that are rated at or above the RpM rating of the cordless Rotary Tool.

Charging

NOTE: Before using tool for the first time, fully charge the Battery.

  1. Use only included Charger. Use of other chargers may cause battery failure including explosion.
  2. Plug charger's jack into charging port.
    Tool Set Up - Charging
  3. Plug Adaptor into a grounded 120VAC outlet.
  4. During recharging, the tool will become slightly warm to the touch. This is normal and not a cause for concern.
  5. Battery indicator shows charging when LEDs flash. When charging is done lights will stay on. Unplug charging cable.

NOTICE: Do not leave the Battery in a discharged state. Charge the Battery every 3 months if the tool is not in use. This will keep the Battery from wearing down and add to its life. Do not charge the tool at temperatures below 40°F.

Inserting a Bit


When changing a bit immediately after use, be careful not to touch the bit. It may be very hot from use, possibly causing injury. Allow the bit time to cool before handling it.

  1. Depress the Spindle Lock. Rotate collet until shaft is engaged by the lock.

  2. Loosen the Collet Nut by turning it counterclockwise, using the Wrench provided.
  3. To remove a bit: Pull the bit straight out of the Collet once the Collet Nut is loose.
    To insert a bit: Insert the shank end of the bit into the Collet once the Collet Nut is loose.

NOTE: Do not force a wrong sized bit into the collet, and do not modify a mismatched collet or bit. Severe personal or property damage may result from using mismatched collets or bits.

  1. Tighten Collet Nut securely using the provided wrench. Ensure that the spindle lock is released before turning on the tool.

Installing Shield

The housing cap is interchangeable with the shield attachment.

  1. Remove the housing cap by turning counterclockwise
  2. Install the shield attachment by turning lock nut clockwise. Reposition Shield by turning it left or right.

Note: When installing or removing, use only hand pressure and tighten firmly by hand. Do not overtighten, as this may damage the part.

Workpiece and Work Area Set Up

  1. Designate a work area that is clean and well-lit. The work area must not allow access by children or pets to prevent distraction and injury.
  2. Secure loose workpieces using a vise or clamps (not included) to prevent movement while working.
  3. There must not be objects, such as utility lines, nearby that will present a hazard while working.

General Operating Instructions

TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY WHILE IN OPERATION:
Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Wear ANSI-approved safety goggles with side shields.

  1. Charge the tool before use.
  2. Select an appropriate bit or attachment for the job. Insert the bit or attachment.
  3. Start the tool by pushing the Power Switch to ON position.

  4. Use the speed buttons to increase or decrease speed. Use a speed appropriate to the bit and the material being worked on. In general, harder materials require faster speeds and softer materials require slower speeds.
  5. Apply the bit to the work material as needed.
  6. When task is complete, stop the tool by pushing power switch to the OFF position. Wait for tool to completely stop spinning. Remove the bit or attachment.
  7. Store tool, parts and accessories inside case to protect from moisture and humidity. Store in an indoor dry area out of reach of children.

Maintenance and Servicing

TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM ACCIDENTAL OPERATION:
Turn the power Switch off and wait for tool to completely stop before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures.

TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM TOOL FAILURE:
Do not use damaged equipment. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the problem corrected before further use.

Cleaning, Maintenance, and Lubrication

  1. BEFORE EACH USE, inspect the general condition of the tool. Check for:
    • loose hardware,
    • misalignment or binding of moving parts,
    • cracked or broken parts,
    • damaged electrical wiring,
    • any other condition that may affect its safe operation.
  1. AFTER USE, wipe external surfaces of the tool with clean cloth.
  2. Store tool, parts and accessories inside case to protect from moisture and humidity. Store in an indoor dry area out of reach of children.

Battery Removal Instructions

Contains Li-Ion battery. BATTERY MUST BE RECYCLED OR DISPOSED OF PROPERLY.

  1. Remove screws from housing.
  2. Remove circuit board and battery.

  2. Keep cutting accessories sharp. Replace as needed.
  3. Wear ANSI-approved safety goggles and NIOSH-approved dust mask/ respirator while blowing dust out of motor using compressed air.
