The standard probes for furnace operation are type K: they have a hot junction
combining nickel-chromium alloy and nickel-aluminum alloy.
International specifications for type K define a sensitivity and linearity over the
range 0–1,370°C/32–2,498°F (see below). The practical operating range is
limited by the properties of the cable insulation (normally PTFE, mineral or
ceramic fiber; see below) or metallic sheathing.
Never connect thermocouples to mains electricity. This could cause major injury
