Modbus and Gauge Interface Setup

The Data Pro may be configured as a slave or a master device. There are four (4) serial Modbus
ports and two (2) Ethernet ports. The Ethernet ports are available for TCP/IP Modbus. A Serial Modbus
port can have multiple devices connected as long as they have a unique address and have the same
baud rate. A device connected to the Data Pro must have an internal Modbus map assigned for the
Data Pro to sample and store the data to internal memory. Modbus addresses configured in the Data
Pro will be saved to memory.
A serial port with no devices assigned to it acts as a Modbus slave port responding to incoming
Modbus requests. Data requested for a connected device must use the "Unit Id" as the slave address.
For example, if a device has a slave address of 1, Data Pro will use this device for communication,
but the device's data will be available on "Unit_Id" 2. Simple configuration can be performed via the
Data Pro. An available PC software application called 'DataWorks' is utilized for more advanced
configuration. 'DataWorks' creates a file that the user saves to a USB memory stick. Import the memory
stick configuration to the Data Pro via the front panel USB port. Five Modbus maps are pre-configured
internally on the Data Pro: See the list below:
1. V7 -

2. SPS-1500 -

3. SCOUT-3000 -
4. FIC -

5. DL4200 – (Default map) –
The Data Pro has what is termed an impersonation mode. What this means is that a Com port can
be setup as a slave device and then a Modbus map from the ones listed above can be assigned to that
port. Once this is done the Data Pro can be polled just like the device that was selected. This is useful if
you have a pre-configured master device (VSD, SCADA, etc...) that has already been integrated with
one of our other devices.
Data Pro uses port 502 for TCP/IP Modbus communication
Any changes to the Modbus setup will cause the Data Pro to reboot.
