Preparing Your Camera Installing the Batteries Use 2 AA-size batteries (either Ni-MH or CR-V3) to power the camera. Battery power is convenient for capturing images or recording video clips. 1. Make sure your camera is off. 2. Slide open the battery/SD card cover lock. 3.

Installing an SD Memory Card Your camera comes with 14MB of internal memory, allowing you to store images and video clips in the camera. However, you can also expand the memory capacity by using the SD memory card. An optional SD memory card provides removable, reusable storage for images and video clips.

Using the LCD Monitor Using the LCD monitor can help you to compose an image while taking pictures, to replay recorded images/ video clips or to adjust menu settings. The mode icons, text and numbers that are displayed on the LCD monitor may vary according to the current settings.
Using the Optical Viewfinder to Shoot Your camera is also equipped with an optical viewfinder to compose images. Using the viewfinder helps you compose images and focus clearly on the subject. Taking images by using the optical viewfinder will conserve more battery power.
Adjusting the Zoom The lens moves during zoom photography. Zoom photography allows you to capture telephoto and wide-angle images. The subject appears closer by pressing the [ T ] telephoto button and appears further away by pressing the [ W ] wide-angle button. 1.
Using the Self-Timer / Interval Photography This setting enables images to be taken with the [ ] self-timer and also interval photography. The [ ] self-timer button can select the mode of capture between “Off” (default) and “Self timer” (5 seconds, 10 seconds, 10+2 seconds or Interval).

To Use Interval Photography: 1. Set the mode dial to any one of the photography modes apart from Video mode. 2. Press the [ ] menu button. 3. Select “INTERVAL” by using the buttons, and press the button. 4. Select “INTERVAL” or “COUNT” by using the buttons.
Using the Flash The flash is designed to function automatically when lighting conditions warrant its use. You can take an image using a flash mode that most suits your circumstances. 1. Rotate the mode dial to your desired scene (Auto/Program/Scene/Tv/Av/ Manual) and power on your camera.

Scene Mode – Night Scene [ Capturing human subjects using [ ] Night Scene mode helps to provide a natural balance between the main subject and the background. People against an evening sky or night scene are illuminated with light from the flash while the background is captured at a slow shutter speed to prevent blurring, thus allowing both people and background to receive the correct amount of exposure.
Scene Mode – Backlight [ Use the [ ] Backlight mode when the light is coming from behind your subject, casting shadows on their features, or when your subject is in the shade but the background is brightly lit. 1. Rotate the mode dial to [ SCENE ] Scene mode and power on your camera. 2.
Scene Mode – Pan [ Using the [ ] Pan mode fixes the focus so images can be taken quickly when the shutter button is pressed. Use Pan mode when you do not want to miss a shot, but you cannot predetermine the subject’s position or the exact focal distance.
Manual Mode [ M ] You can take pictures by manually adjusting the camera settings. The flash default setting for [M] Manual mode is [ ] flash off. For long period exposure photography, be sure to set the flash setting to [ ] flash off.
Video Mode [ By using the [ ] Video mode you can record video clips at a resolution of 320X240 pixels or 160x120 pixels. Voice can also be recorded. The provided video menus are [VIDEO SIZE], [VIDEO QUALITY] and [VIDEO COLOR]. 1.
Program (Automatic Exposure) Mode [ P ] Using the Program (Automatic Exposure) the camera automatically sets the shutter speed and the aperture to match the brightness of the scene. The provided capture menus are [IMAGE SIZE], [IMAGE QUALITY], [COLOR], [SATURATION], [SHARPNESS], [FOCUS], [QUICK VIEW], [HISTOGRAM], [CAPTURE MODE], [EV], [WHITE BALANCE], [ISO], [METERING], [SELF TIMER] and [INTERVAL].

Photography –Selecting Particular Effects Changing Image Resolution and Quality Resolution and quality settings determine the pixel size (dimension), image file size, and compression ratio for your images. These settings affect the number of images that can be stored in the memory or on an SD memory card.

Adjusting the Exposure Compensation Your camera adjusts the exposure of each scene automatically. However, if the subject is very dark or very bright, you may override the camera’s automatic exposure determination to make the subject brighter or darker. This is called “EV compensation”. 1.
Setting the White Balance The human eye adapts to changes in light so that white objects still appear white even when the light changes. With cameras, however, the color of the subject is influenced by the color of the light surrounding it. This color adjustment is called “white balance adjustment”.
Switching between Metering Modes Set the metering method to calculate the exposure. 1. Rotate the mode dial to one of [ M ] Manual mode, [ Av ] Aperture Priority mode, [ Tv ] Shutter Speed Priority or [ P ] Program mode. 2.

Thumbnail Display This feature allows you to view four or nine thumbnail images on the LCD monitor simultaneously so that you can quickly scan for a particular image. 1. Power on your camera. 2. Press the [ ] playback button. The last recorded image appears on the LCD monitor.
Viewing Video Clips Play back video clips recorded on the camera. Voice is also played back. To view the recorded video clips, follow the steps below. 1. Power on your camera. 2. Press the [ ] playback button. 3. Select the video clip that you want to view by using the buttons.
Automated Playback (Slide Show) The function enables you to play your images back automatically in sequential order just like a slide show. This is a very useful and entertaining feature for reviewing recorded images and for presentations. 1. Power on your camera. 2.
Protecting Images/Video Clips This option enables you to prevent recorded images or video clips from being accidentally erased. 1. Power on your camera. 2. Press the [ ] playback button. 3. Press the [ ] menu button and select “PROTECT” by using the buttons and press the button.
Erasing Deleting Single Images/Video Clips You can erase a captured image or a recorded video clip individually by pressing the [ ] delete button. 1. Power on your camera. 2. Press the [ ] playback button. The last image frame appears on the LCD monitor. 3.

Print Settings (DPOF Settings) DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) allows you to embed printing information on your SD memory card. By using DPOF, you can select an image to be printed and then specify how many prints or which image you would like.
Transferring Recorded Images/Video Clips To Your Computer You can share recorded images/ video clips with your family or friends via e-mail or post them on the Web. Beforehand, you need to connect the camera to your computer by using the USB cable and then transfer the images/video clips.

Step 3: Downloading Images/Video Clips When the camera is turned on and connected to your computer, it is considered to be a disk drive, just like a floppy disk or CD. You can download (transfer) images by copying them from the “removable disk” (“untitled” disk on a Macintosh) to your computer hard drive.

COLOR To capture an image, your camera offers you four types of color (Full color/ Vivid/Black and White/Sepia) to suit your preferences. Your images will have a different look by choosing different types of color. FULL COLOR ]: Records the image in full colors. VIVID ]: Records the image in brighter colors.

SHARPNESS Your camera will automatically emphasize the edges (Low/Medium/High) between light and dark areas of the image. This will make the edges of the image look sharper. WHITE BALANCE Refer to the title “ Setting the White Balance “ in Photography–Selecting Particular Effects for further details. The ISO speed decides the sensitivity to the light. The higher the ISO number is, the more sensitive it is to the light. When recording under dark conditions or recording a fast moving subject, use a high-number setting.

SELF TIMER Set to use self-timer either continuously or for single photos. Refer to chapter “Using the Self-timer/Interval Photography” for further details. [ CONTINUE OFF ]: Disable continuous self-timer photography (default setting). For each self-timed photograph, you need to toggle the [ ] button to activate the function.
Playback Menu This feature allows you to transfer your recorded images/video clips to an SD memory card, to create an on-camera slide show or configure DPOF settings. You may also delete one or all stored images, format your SD memory card or the internal memory.

RESET NUMBER Set if you want to reset the file number when you take photographs. This creates a new folder. The photographed images are recorded into the newly created folder starting from number 0001.
