SYNCHRONIZE PLAYBACK WITH A CLOCK

Blackbox can either run on its own internal clock or follow an external clock. It can also

provide a clock signal for other devices to follow.

Blackbox displays the current clock time in the top left corner of most screens in the

format <bar>: <beat>. If more than one clock input is available, the highest priority clock

signal will be used. Blackbox can adjust the timing of the playback of a clip pad to

synchronize it with a specified unit of musical clock time (e.g. 1 bar, quarter note triplet,

etc); these beat-based settings are also available for FX delay time and pad LFO rate.

Blackbox always sends an analog pulse clock through the CLOCK OUT port. Like the

analog CLOCK IN, the analog CLOCK OUT can be set to 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, or 24 pulses per

quarter note (PPQ).Use the Analog Out parameter, found under the Clock tab on the

Tools screen, to adjust this.

In addition, blackbox can send MIDI Clock, Start, and Stop messages to the TRS MIDI OUT

jack, the USB DEVICE port, or both at once. The Send parameter under the Clock tab on

the Tools screen allows you to choose which MIDI ports will send out the clock:

■ Off: The clock signal is not sent out to MIDI ports.

■ MIDI Out: The clock signal will be sent to the MIDI Out TRS port.

■ USB Device: The clock signal will be sent to the USB DEVICE port.

■ All: The clock signal will be sent to the MIDI Out TRS port and the USB DEVICE port.

Note:

► The Clock Send parameter will override the MIDI Out and USB Dev Out

settings on the Tools MIDI page.

► Unlike the Clock inputs, which have the potential for conflicts and thus need

to be routed with care, Clock messages can be sent to all three Clock outputs

at once without fear of conflicting timebases.
