The screen will not scroll if you trace toward the center of the Touch Pad. On screens that cannot be scrolled (e.g., desktop screen), if you scroll, the computer may try to scroll the screen, causing the cursor to freeze.

    Using the Touch Pad Handling the Touch Pad By design, the Touch Pad is to be used with a fingertip only. Do not place any object on the work surface or press down forcefully with sharp-pointed objects (e.g., nails) or hard objects that can leave marks (e.g., pencils and ball point pens). Try to avoid having any harmful substances, such as oil, come in contact with the Touch Pad.

    Battery Power When the AC adaptor is connected. The orange display light has three modes: on, flashing and blinking. Note the difference between flashing and blinking. NOTE Once the battery is fully charged, the computer performs recharging only when the remaining battery power becomes less than approximately 95% (75% when Economy Mode (ECO) is enabled), so overcharging is avoided.

    USB Devices Connecting/Removing USB Devices To connect the device Connect the USB device to one of the USB ports (A). For further information, refer to the instruction manual of the USB device. To remove the device Preparation Close all applications. Disable the USB device.

In this case, remove and connect the device again, or restart the com- puter. When a USB device is connected, power consumption increases. Remove the USB device when it is not in use, espe- cially when operating by battery power.

    USB Devices USB Floppy Disk Drive Note the following when using an optional USB floppy disk drive (CF-VFDU03). Avoid the followings while the floppy disk drive is being accessed. Doing any of these may damage the data on the floppy disk and render it useless.
  • Page 63 Modem CAUTION Do not use the PBX internal phone lines installed in company offices. Doing so may lead to a fire or electric shock. You cannot connect the modem to the following lines. • Interphone • Intercom • ISDN Be sure to connect the telephone cable into the modem port, not into the LAN port. Use a surge protector since the modem may be damaged by a sudden high voltage surge that may occur in the event of a lightning strike.
  • Page 64 Modem Ring Resume Function The computer automatically resumes from sleep when the telephone connected to the modem rings. You will need software to keep the computer in an idle state waiting for a phone call, and if you prefer, to turn the computer to sleep again afterward.
  • Page 65 Modem The computer needs some time to respond, so set the calling time longer than normal. If this is not possible on the transmission side, reduce the number of rings before answering on the software that you are using to keep the com- puter in idle waiting for the call.

    CAUTION Do not connect the telephone cable to the LAN port. To ensure proper network operations, use a twisted pair cable (category 5 or higher) less than 100 m in length. Do not use the sleep or hibernation during communications (except when the Wake up from LAN function is in use), as this may cause an error in data transmission or reception.
