This chapter introduces you to the Polycom CX5100 system: how it works, what it looks like, and how to get
started using it to participate in video conferences.

Introducing the Polycom CX5100 System

The Polycom CX5100 unified conference station lets you use the collaboration capabilities of Microsoft Lync
voice, video, and content while automatically tracking the flow of conversation to enable richer, more
interactive communication. The CX5100 system provides the camera and microphones. You place, answer,
and control Microsoft Lync calls using the computer connected to the system.
During a call, the integrated cameras capture the entire panoramic view of your conference room, and the
integrated microphones capture the voices coming from any location around the table. During calls, the
system automatically shows the person who is speaking, along with a 360° view of the other participants in
the room. The site with the active speaker sees the last speaker. See
