An Ethernet LAN that works on twisted-pair wiring.

Address Resolution Protocol. The TCP/IP protocol used to dynamically bind an IP address
to a low-level physical hardware address (usually a Media Access Control (MAC)
address).
Asynchronous Transfer Mode is a high speed, high bandwidth, low-delay, packet-like
switching technology.
An authentication server can either be a RADIUS server or an XTACACS server. An
authentication server is used to confirm an end-user system's access location.
BOOTstrap Protocol. A TCP/IP protocol the MCC card uses to obtain startup information,
including IP address from the DSL cards.
Carrierless Amplitude Modulation/Phase Modulation. A transmission technology for
implementing a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL). The transmit and receive signals are
modulated into two wide-frequency bands using pass band modulation techniques.
Data Communications Equipment Manager. A network management system that helps the
network administrator manage devices using Simple Network Management Protocol
(SNMP) and HP OpenView.
An IP address specified as 0.0.0.0. A route used when no others have the desired
destination.
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.
A component of the dynamic IP-addressing mechanism. The DSL card in the DSLAM acts
as a DHCP relay agent between the end-user system and the DHCP server. The DHCP
relay agent detects and forwards a DHCP discover or request message to the appropriate
DHCP server. It also tracks the end-user IP address and lease time from the DHCP
acknowledgement by updating the routing tables automatically.
A server which uses DHCP to allocate network addresses and deliver configuration
parameters to dynamically configured hosts.
A block of IP addresses. Syntactically, all IP addresses within a given domain would share
a common IP address prefix of some length.
Digital Subscriber Line. DSL is a copper loop transmission technology enabling high-speed
access in the local loop.
Digital Subscriber Line Card. The primary card in the HotWire DSLAM system. It has one
Ethernet port and four DSL ports.
Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer. DSLAM provides simultaneous high-speed
digital data access and analog POTS over the same twisted-pair telephone line.
Name of the DSL card's and MCC card's 10BaseT (Ethernet) interface.
Any end-user computer system that connects to a network.
A physical data link protocol used for Local Area Network (LAN) connections.
