Chapter 3 Instant Internet 100 hardware installation

Attach one end of the communications cable (modem, ISDN, or
second Ethernet) to the appropriate connector on the Instant Internet unit
(Figure
If you are using the second Ethernet option, use the top Ethernet connector
at the back of your unit for this connection.

Attach the other end of the communications cable to the appropriate source
(phone jack, ISDN jack, router, cable modem, or xDSL modem)

Attach the Instant Internet unit to a hub on your LAN using the included
straight-through Ethernet cable
Use the bottom Ethernet connector at the back of your unit for this
connection.

Plug the power cord into the power supply but do not plug the power cord into
the AC wall outlet.

Plug the power supply into the rear panel of the Instant Internet unit.

Plug the power cord into an AC wall outlet.
When you plug in your Instant Internet 100 unit, the LEDs on the front panel
illuminate. LED #2 glows amber when the unit is ready for setup. For information
about setting up your unit, see Installing the BayStack Instant Internet
Management Software Version 7.11.

Note: If you are connecting to a router, you must use a crossover
Ethernet cable for this connection. The crossover Ethernet cable is not
included.
Caution: It is very important that you plug the power supply into the
Instant Internet unit before you plug it into the AC outlet. If your
Instant Internet unit was manufactured before July 1998, you can
damage your unit if you plug a live power supply into it.
Caution: Install the unit close to a wall outlet so that you can easily
plug or unplug the power cord to turn the unit on or off.
