    Biometra TMS Notes on this operating manual Notes on this operating manual Content The operating manual describes the following device model: Biometra TMS ¡ Within this document, this model will be referred to as the device or the temperature measuring system. The device is used to calibrate automated and manually operated thermal cyclers.

    Intended use Biometra TMS Intended use The Biometra TMS is a temperature measuring system for calibrating thermal cy- clers. The measured temperatures of the sample block under test are compared with specific predefined values.  NOTICE! The temperature measuring system cannot be used for adjusting the de- vice.

    Biometra TMS Security Security For your own safety and to ensure error-free and safe operation of the device, please read this chapter carefully before commissioning. Observe all safety instructions listed in this user manual and all messages and infor- mation displayed on the monitor by the control and analysis software. Safety labeling on the device Warning and mandatory action labels have been attached to the device and must al- ways be observed.

    Security Biometra TMS Safety instructions: during operation 3.4.1 General safety instructions during operation The operator must make sure that the device and its safety equipment is in sound condition each time before starting up the device. This applies in particular after each modification or extension of the device or its repair.

    Biometra TMS Security Avoid biological contamination of the device. The housing of the measuring ¡ head cannot be disinfected and can only be wiped with a damp cloth. Clean, dis- infect and dry the thermal cycler to be tested, and especially the sample block, before inserting the measuring head.

    Design and function Biometra TMS Design and function Calibration of a thermal cycler using a Biometra TMS is carried out as follows: The temperature measuring system measures the temperatures of the sample block and, if required, of the heated lid of the tested thermal cycler. The software of the tem- perature measuring system which is installed on a separate PC logs the captured data, compares them with a predefined temperature program, detects any deviations, and dis- plays them.

    Biometra TMS Design and function The arrangement of these sensors on the various measuring trees matches the tempera- ture characteristics of the block, i.e. the mean value, spread and uniformity. Depending on the block type and manufacturer, these can be distributed differently across the block.

    Design and function Biometra TMS Measuring tree variants Analytik Jena offers measuring trees with matching measuring heads for calibrating dif- ferent types of sample blocks. These measuring trees can be connected to the multime- ter using a simple plug-in system. The software will automatically read the serial num- ber of the measuring tree that is connected.

    Troubleshooting Biometra TMS Troubleshooting This section describes a number of device errors that can partly be corrected by the users themselves. Most of the device errors described are easy to identify. If the sug- gested solutions do not eliminate the errors/problems, and if such problems occur frequently, contact the customer service department of Analytik Jena.

Proceed carefully when moving and transporting the device. Grip the device firmly at the bottom with both hands and lift it.
