5 Mounting / Installation
You should finish planning the pipe system before mounting and installing the
aspirating smoke detector and the electrical systems and equipment.
All pipework must be mounted in accordance with local and national specifications
and guidelines.
The software 'FXS2056 ASD Asyst‑Tool V3' provides the following data, which is
relevant for mounting the pipe system:
Diameters of the aspirating holes
Diameter of the aspirating hole in each end cap
The air pressure in the aspirating smoke detector should be the same or lower than
in the room where the aspirating system is located. If this is not the case, the
pressure can be balanced by means of air return.
The topology selected affects the size of the monitored area. Comply with the
permitted topologies and dimensions.
Branches and bends have a negative effect on the performance of the pipe
system.
If systems have multiple pipework branches, they should be the same
length to achieve a balanced airflow.
Having pipework of the same length and the number of aspirating holes
make it easier to balance the airflow.
The size of the aspirating holes in the end caps can be used to balance the
airflow in the pipes.
Use the software 'FXS2056 ASD Asyst‑Tool V3' to calculate the airflow balance
and the size of the aspirating holes.
Fasten pipes at least every 200 cm to ensure they do not bend.
Use plastic pipes made from PVC or ABS: Inner diameter 16...21 mm, outer
diameter 25 mm
Inner diameter 16 mm suitable for pipe length ≤20 m
Inner diameter 20...21 mm suitable for pipe length ≤60 m
Use metal pipes if:
Mechanical forces are acting on the pipe system
Local regulations demand it
Heat, cold, or solvents would damage a plastic pipe system
All pipe connections must be airtight.
It must be possible to detach the connection to the aspirating smoke detector in
order to perform maintenance – this connection must not be glued.
If the climatic conditions in the room being monitored change from those on
which planning was initially based, the efficiency and reliability of the fire
detection system using aspirating smoke detectors will worsen. Such changes
would be:
Air pressure conditions in the room
Installation of an air conditioning system or a ventilation system
Dust concentration
w
The pipe system has been planned in accordance with the requirements
described in this document.
1. Use a pipe cutter to cut the pipes.
2. Remove the protective caps from the pipes.
