Important information about water and shock resistant features

Before Use:

  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth to remove dust, lint, sand, and other foreign matter from the battery/card compartment/connector cover and lens gaskets and seals.
  • Confi rm that the battery/card compartment/connector cover and lens gaskets are free from nicks and cracks.
  • Securely close the battery/card compartment/connector cover latch.

After Use:

  • Be sure to wipe off any excess water or debris after using the camera under water.
  • After using the camera in salt water, immerse it in a bucket of fresh water for about 10 minutes (with the underwater lens protector attached and the battery/card compartment/connector cover securely closed and latched) and then leave it to dry in a shady, well-ventilated location. Do not leave the camera for more than 60 minutes before washing it in fresh water. Failure to observe this precaution could adversely affect its appearance or leave it more vulnerable to leaks.
  • When opening the battery/card compartment/connector cover, open slowly with the camera orientated as shown in the illustration to prevent water drops entering the camera. If any water drops are found on the inner side of the cover, be sure to wipe them off before using the camera.
  • Foreign materials may be attached to the camera when using the camera in conditions with foreign materials such as dirt, dust or sand. If you continue to use the camera in such conditions, it could cause damage to the camera. To avoid such damage, wash the camera using the following method.

  1. Close and lock the battery/card compartment/connector cover firmly.
  2. Immerse the camera lens first in a bucket or other container of fresh water and move it vigorously from side-to-side, or rinse the camera directly under a moderately strong stream of tap water while operating the buttons and opening and closing the monitor.

Storage and Maintenance

  • Do not leave the camera in an environment at high temperature (40°C (104°F) or more) or at low temperature (–10°C (14°F) or less). Failure to do so may break down water resistance.
  • Do not use chemicals for cleaning, rust prevention, anti-fogging, repairing, etc. Failure to do so may break down water resistance.
  • Do not leave the camera in water for a long time. Prolonged exposure to water will cause damage to the camera's appearance and/or deteriorate water resistance.
  • In order to preserve the water resistant feature, as with any underwater housing, it is recommended that the waterproof packing (and seals) are replaced annually. For the Olympus distributors or service stations where the waterproof packing can be replaced, visit Olympus website for your local area.
  • The battery, cables, and USB adapter are not waterproof.
