COIL REQUIREMENT!
Failure to follow this Caution could result in property damage or personal injury. 4GXC* and
4MXC* coils installed on upflow furnaces in vertical, horizontal left, or horizontal right
orientations without a factory installed metal drain pan shield must use a MAY*FERCOLKITAA
kit. Coils installed on upflow furnaces must have drain pans that are suitable for 400° F
(205°C) or have a metal drain pan shield. Downflow furnaces do not require a metal drain pan
shield or the use of the MAY*FERCOLKITAA kit.
Only qualified personnel should install and service the equipment. The installation, starting up, and servicing of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning
equipment can be hazardous and requires specific knowledge and training. Improperly installed, adjusted or altered equipment by an unqualified person
could result in death or serious injury. When working on the equipment, observe all precautions in the literature and on the tags, stickers, and labels that
are attached to the equipment.

Questions and answers
how to change the filter
To change the filter for the Trane S9V2B040U3PSBC/D furnace:
1. Filters are not factory-supplied for downflow furnaces and must be installed externally to the unit.
2. For downflow configurations, use the appropriate filter size based on furnace width:
- 17-1/2": two 14”x20”x1” filters
- 21": two 16”x20”x1” filters
- 24-1/2": two 16”x20”x1” filters
3. If the return duct is directly beneath the bottom side (close-coupled, less than 36”), this setup is not recommended due to noise.
4. Filters can be installed in a remote location or in the ductwork upstream of the furnace.
5. Always install a 1/2" mesh metal hardware cloth protective screen inside the bottom of the filter grille to prevent injury when accessing the return opening.
To replace the filter:
- Turn off the furnace.
- Access the external filter location (remote grille or upstream duct).
- Remove the grille or access panel.
- Slide out the old filters.
- Insert new filters of the correct size and type.
- Reattach the grille or panel and restore power.
