Pick the Modem Type
Tell your communications software what kind of
modem you're using. Scroll through the list of available
faxmodem types. If you don't see the Linksys 10/100 +
56K Modem PC Card listed, you can choose any gener-
ic 56K modem that supports the V .90 standard and
Hayes AT commands.
Entering the Init String
An initialization string is a string of Hayes AT com-
mands that sets up the 10/100 + 56K Modem PC Card
for communications. After telling your communications
software which init string to use, the software will auto-
matically send the string to the modem when it is ready
to dial.
Find the area in your communications software where
you can set up the init string. The recommended init
string is as follows:
AT&FE1&C1&D2V1\V0
You can change the init string if you want.
Setting the Speed
The 10/100 + 56K Modem PC Card is designed to auto-
matically adjust to the fastest possible speed when mak-
ing a dial-up connection. Unless your software requests
you to supply the fastest speed your modem supports,
you normally don't need to specify how fast the 10/100
+ 56K Modem PC Card should go -- it will adjust auto-
matically when a host connects to it.
If you want to set the speed, you can do so when you
enter the Init string. Simply choose AT commands that
