The following hints can help you avoid jams: • Use only recommended print media. See to the Card Stock & Label Guide available on Lexmark’s Web site at www.lexmark.com/ publications for more information about which print media will provide optimum results for your printing environment.
From your software application, open the file you want to print. From the File menu, select Print Setup. Verify the correct printer is selected in the Print Setup dialog box. In the Print Setup dialog box, select Properties, Options, or Setup (depending on the application), select the print media type and size, and then select OK.
Double-click the My Computer icon. Double-click the Printer icon. A list of available printers appears. Double-click the printer you are using to print the job. A list of print jobs appears. Select the job you want to cancel. Press the Delete key.

Using and loading the multipurpose feeder Your printer has a multipurpose feeder that holds several sizes and types of print media. It is located on the front of your printer and can be closed when you are not using it. Reserve the multipurpose feeder for when you print on different sizes and types of print media, such as card stock, transparencies, postcards, note cards, and envelopes.

Cleaning the printhead lens You can solve some print quality problems by cleaning the printhead lens. Turn the printer off. Open the upper front door and the multipurpose feeder door. Remove the print cartridge. See Locate the glass printhead lens.
All options are properly installed. • If you have checked all of the above and still have a problem, turn the printer power off, wait for about 10 seconds, and then turn the printer power on. This often fixes the problem.
Make sure that the upper front door is fully closed on both sides. If the left side of the door is not fully closed, the printer will not print. If the right side of the door is not fully closed, black splotches may print down the right side of a page.

Restoring factory defaults You can make changes to printer settings or values by using the menus available through the Printer Settings Configuration sheet, PJL commands, or the Local Printer Setup Utility. Removing the printer from an optional drawer You can remove the printer from either the 250-sheet drawer or the 500-sheet drawer using the same method. Turn the printer power off. Unplug the printer power cord. Disconnect all cables from the back of the printer.
Removing an optional memory card These instructions can help you remove optional printer memory or flash memory cards. Note: You will need a #2 Phillips screwdriver for this procedure. Accessing the system board Turn the printer off and unplug the printer power cord.

Press the tabs on the front and top of the printer to release the side door. Swing the side door away from the printer, and then slide the door toward the back of the printer to remove it. Set the door aside.

Slide the shield to the left until the screws fit into the keyholes on the cover. Remove the shield and set it aside.
Removing optional memory cards Complete the following steps to remove optional printer memory or flash memory cards. Optional memory cards are easily damaged by static electricity. Touch something ARNING metal on the printer before you touch an optional memory card.
Slide the shield to the right, and then tighten the screws. Reattaching the side door Align the three tabs on the back of the side door with the slots on the printer. Align the tabs on the bottom of the side door with the slots at bottom of the printer.

Press the side door firmly into place, making sure that the two tabs are in place, and that the ridge on top of the side door aligns with the ridge on the printer. Close the upper front door and multipurpose feeder door.
