Replacing the system board

This section provides instructions on how to replace the system board.
CAUTION:
The heat sink and microprocessor might be very hot. Turn off the computer and
wait three to five minutes to let the computer cool before opening the computer
cover.
1. Open the computer cover. See "Opening the cover" on page 130.
2. Lay the computer on its side for easier access to the system board.
3. Remove any adapter cards installed in the PCI connectors. See "Replacing an
adapter card" on page 139.
4. Note the location of all cable connections on the system board and disconnect
all cables. See "System board connectors and components" on page 129.
Note: The latches for the power connectors are not easily accessible using
fingers. Use a tool such as a screwdriver or a pair of pliers to unlatch
the connectors.
5. Remove the hard disk drive fan. See "Replacing a fan assembly" on page 156.
6. Remove the nine screws that secure the system board to the chassis following
the sequence shown in the figure:
7. Lift the system board out of the chassis.
8. Remove the memory modules from the failing system board.
