Drain existing water heater and remove. Speed up drain
time by using a transfer pump (See HD Supply Part #
402453 or 403116).
5
If your property has a backflow or a check valve on the
plumbing system, then a thermal expansion tank should
be installed near the water heater to protect it from
damage caused by thermal expansion (See HD Supply
Part # 640585 or 640590).
6
Set new water heater in place and connect to
water supply. Using push-to-connect water
heater connectors will save installation time (See
HD Supply Part # 549860 or 400531). Connect
T&P valve according to local code requirements.

Turn on main water supply or open ball valve on cold
water inlet and fill tank.
Check flow rate from open faucet (hot water side) until
water runs full flow for three minutes to ensure the tank
is completely full. Tank must be completely full before
connecting electrical power to avoid burning out (dry
firing) the upper heating element.
Connect power using the Installation Instructions and
Use & Care Guide and turn on the circuit breaker to
water heater.
Check all water connections for leaks. Most leaks are
caused by poor connections and not a tank leak.
