SECTION VII: TROUBLESHOOTING

For your safety, the repair and servicing of this equipment shall only be performed by a
qualified agency.
Table 8: General Troubleshooting
Problem
Unable to light the burner
Burner does not stay lit
Rumbling noise in the tank during
burner operation
Insufficient hot water
Water too hot or not hot enough
T&P relief valve is dripping water.
T&P relief valve is gushing hot water.
CAUTION
Possible causes
1) Check display for error code.
2) Air in the gas line.
3) Loose wire connection.
1) Check display for error code.
1) Scale or sediment build-up in tank.
1) Heater undersized for load
2) Check display for error code.
3) Temperature setting of control is too low.
1) Control temperature setting is too high or low.
1) Excessive pressure condition in tank
(greater than 150 psi).
1) Excessive temperature condition in tank
(greater than 210°F).
Recommended Action
1) See Tables 9 and 10.
2) Contact qualified agency to purge the air
from the gas line.
3) Contact qualified agency to inspect wiring.

sediment.
