4. Your facility must be licensed/trained to handle and
ship Class 9 materials. As such, the shipping paperwork
must be filled out properly, such that the bill of lading
specifically calls out that the box contains a UN3480
Lithium Ion Battery, which is Packaging Group II
(PGII) that is a Hazardous (Class 9) material.
5. The pack may not be shipped on any passenger
aircraft. Ground freight and Air Cargo are acceptable
methods of shipping. Due to cost, ground freight is
recommended.
Important: A lithium ion battery that has any
damage or is being shipped for disposal/recycling
may NOT be shipped via air transportation. Use
only ground freight in these instances.
Note: This exact shipping box, inserts, and tape (brand,
width, thickness), in the proper taping locations must be
used. The assembly (in this exact format) has been tested
to UN/DOT shipping standards. To ensure the pack meets
these requirements each time it is shipped, it needs to be
packed in the same manner each time.
DANGER
Failure to properly pack and ship the battery can
result in significant fines, up to $50,000 per instance.
Fines are imposed on a per pack basis, not a per
shipment basis.
