b. Once a location is chosen for clamp installation, turn all 4X Flange Thickness Adjustment knobs and the Hex Drive
Hub or Speed Handle counterclockwise such that the parts of the clamp open to a point where it can be placed over
and around the manway
structure.
! WARNING ! - The user must
ensure that the manway and
structure to which the AC-R
Series Clamp is attached is
capable of withstanding all of
the loads imparted to it by the
device when proof-loaded.
There is a limitless variety
of manway and structure
confi gurations and address-
ing each potential scenario
is beyond the scope of this
manual. A "qualifi ed person"
must approve each attach-
ment point.
c. Once positioned at the center of the manway structure, turn the Hex Drive Hub or Speed Handle Clockwise to pull
the sections of the clamp together around the manway fl ange. The 4X vertical adjustment screws should just come
into contact with the outside of the manway fl ange. Do not over tighten at this stage, or the threaded components
could become damaged.
d. Ensure that the 4X vertical adjustment screws
are adjacent to the outside diameter of the
manway fl ange. It should also be verifi ed that
the upper fl at surface of each jaw plate is located
underneath the manway fl ange. Simply placing
the "notched" section of the jaw plates under
the fl ange is not adequate. Bringing the vertical
screws into "near" contact with the fl ange should
ensure that the jaws are properly positioned (refer
to Figure #5h for proper positioning).

tool for this step, can per-
manently damage the clamp
and cause it to fail. The ver-
tical screws only need to be
brought close to the manway
fl ange, they do not serve to
"grip" the structure!
