TheTirePressureMonitorSystemisinstalledintheF12.
ThedirectmeasuringTPMsystem(RDC)consistsoftheTPMScontrolunitwithintegratedreception
aerialandfourwheelelectronics.Itwaspossibletoreducethenumberofcomponentsandcostofthe
TPMsystembyintegratingthereceptionantennaintheTPMScontrolunit.
ThefourwheelelectronicstransmitthetirepressureandtemperaturetotheTPMScontrolunitvia
radiocommunication(433MHz).Oncethewheelelectronicshavebeenwokenup,(vehiclespeed>
20km/h),atotalof25telegramsaretransmittedonceattwosecondintervals.Providingthepressure
doesnotdrop,individualtelegramsarethensentevery18secondsfromthewheelelectronicstothe
TPMScontrolunit.Asaprerequisiteforthewheelelectronicstogotosleep,thewheelmustbeata
standstillformorethanfiveminutes.
Resettingthetirepressurevalues
Thetirepressurevaluesareresetviatheinstrumentpanel(KOMBI)orCentralInformationDisplay
(CID).TheTPMStextmessageappears,orthepermanentTPMSindicatorlightlightsup,intheinstru-
mentpanel(KOMBI)whentheteach-inprocessstarts.
Teach-inprocess
Duringtheteach-inprocess,thewheelelectronicsidentificationnumbers(IDs)aretransmittedtothe
TPMScontrolunit.TheTPMScontrolunitcanidentifythewheelpositionofthecorrespondingwheel
electronicsviatheidentificationnumbersoncetheteach-inprocessiscomplete.
Twoaccelerationsensorsareinstalledineachofthewheelelectronicsinordertobeabletodetermine
theirpositions.Theaccelerationsensorsdeterminethewheel'sdirectionofrotation.Thismeansthat
itispossibletodifferentiatebetweenthepositionsoftheright/leftwheelelectronicsatthevehicle.
Thehighfrequencysignalsreceivedareevaluatedinordertodeterminewhetherthewheelelectronics
areatthefrontorrearaxle.TheTPMScontrolunitwithintegratedreceiverisinstalledintheluggage
compartment.ThelevelofthesignalsreceivedbytheTPMScontrolunitfromthewheelsontherear
axleishigherthanthelevelofsignalssentbythewheelelectronicsonthefrontaxle.Thismeansitis
possibletodeterminewhetherthewheelelectronicsareatthefrontorrearofthevehicle.
Theentireteach-inprocesstakesbetweenroughlyoneandtwelveminutesatthemost.Thefollowing
factorsinfluencethetimeittakestocompletetheprocess:
