Horizontal situation indicator
The HSI indicator:
This screen shows a lot of information, let's have a look one by one.
The navaid info
In the top left corner of the HSI there is information about the currently active
navaid. While many (14) navaid frequencies can be saved, only one can be
active. The active frequency is shown on the UFCD either on the NAV1 or the
NAV2 button. The active one is that one that shows a green square on the top
left of the button.
As you can see on the right, HSI shows the type of the active navaid
(ILS, VOR, NDB, DME..), it's frequency and the identification.
If the navaid is DME equipped the next line shows the distance in nm, the
bearing and the time to the navaid, if speed remains constant.
The next two lines show the GPS coordinates of the navaid.
Changing the active navaid needs to be done in the UFCD. Please see the
UFCD NAV section of this manual, or the quick start manual.
Aircraft GPS / ALT / HDG:
On the top right of the HSI there is the GPS position of the aircraft itself,
followed by it's current altitude in the next line.
Between the navaid GPS info and the aircraft GPS coordinates, there is the
current heading of the aircraft.
Compass rose:
The HSI is dominated by the big compass rose. The heading values of this
rose stay always in a vertical position to facilitate reading. The rose rotates
around it's center when the aircraft is turning.
Slightly left to the center of the rose, true airspeed is indicated. Slightly right to
the center the groundspeed is displayed.
