L WARNING
40
Each carrier vehicle driver must perform a visual inspection before starting
work. If the test has negative results, immediately prevent any further use of the
folding fork arms. Commissioning must only be carried out after a successful
repair.
Danger to life due to unsecured vehicle or moving parts!
– Secure the carrier vehicle against inadvertently rolling off (e.g., with a parking
brake or by removing the key).
– Always use a suitable lifting device for heavy parts.
– During the disassembly of folding fork arms, ensure that loosened parts do
not fall down or tip over.
– Immediately place disassembled components to one side to prevent them
falling.
Observe the above points before any maintenance task. Uncontrolled move-
ments of the vehicle or parts can result in serious injuries or even death due to
the high dead weight.
Check the locking device of the folding fork arms for functionality:
n
– Ensure that the folding fork arms are engaged in the designated locking groove.
– Ensure that the lever of the folding fork arms is fully engaged.
n
Function check of the locking bracket:
– Check the cylinder head screw (Fig. 27/1) for tight seating. If necessary, secure it
with screw adhesive and tighten it.
n
Function check for the locking screw:
– Ensure that the folding fork arms cannot be pushed off of the fork carrier from
the side when the fork arm locking device is open or loosened.
n
Ensure that the hinge pins are not bent and the fork blade can be folded in properly.
n
Ensure that the folding fork arms are free from dirt (including grease) and ice.
n
Ensure that the folding fork arms have no damage, deformation, cracks, and sharp
edges.
n
Ensure that the safety marking is complete and legible. If the marking is illegible,
immediately prevent any further use of the folding fork arms.
Perform a visual inspection for wear on the fork bend and fork blade (
n
6.2.3 "Check for wear" on page 41).
n
Perform a daily visual inspection to determine if there is any corrosion on parts.
Remove corrosion immediately or replace corroded parts.
