COUPLING IMPLEMENT TO TRACTOR

The 3-Point Hitch on the SLR meets ASAE Category III specifications. This hitch is also compatible with CAT III
and CAT III N tractor quick hitches.
The SLR can be attached to the tractor directly to the tractor 3-point or by using a quick hitch (a quick hitch is
recommended for ease of coupling).
Use the toplink on the tractor to level the SLR. For best results the machine should be level from front to rear
when set at the desired depth it may be necessary to slightly angle the machine back, as it has a tendency to dip
down in front while under load.

SHEAR BOLT SHANK

The shear bolt shanks are fitted with a Alloy wear shim to prevent wear. This wear shim is reversible for added
life, simply un-bolt the shim and flip end to end. The ripper points are specially contoured to reduce surface
disturbance and capture to wear shim in place.
The shear bolt shank is designed to be used in non-rocky conditions. Use only grade 2-5/8" shear bolts, the use
of higher bolt grades may cause shank failure. The shank mounting angles are fitted with hardened bushings.
The shear bolt should be tightened so the bushing is in contact with the shank. Washers are required on either
side of the shear bolt to retain the hardened bushings.
Align the shear bolt mounts carefully on the tool bar to allow for ease of shear bolt installation.

OPERATION TIPS

Use a tractor with sufficient horsepower and traction. Soil type, soil moisture, type of crop, depth of operation,
etc. will determine horsepower requirements. The tractor should have sufficient horsepower to operate at
speeds of 4 1/2 mph - 6 mph to provide the best results.
It is extremely important that the SLR Frame operate level at all times. This will minimize the horsepower
requirements and allow optimum flow of soil and residue through the machine.
In cornstalks and other rowed crops operate at a slight angle to the row. This allows better trash flow and
assures the shanks will not constantly operate on a row or between rows. This angle does not have to be
significant (5
O
to 10
O
is adequate). The next year attempt to operate at an angle in the opposite direction of the
row. This will allow the chisels to break up more of the field. Avoid operating straight up and down hills, if
possible.
If the shanks on your Ripper trip excessively without striking a hard object, adjustment can be made as follows:
Automatic Reset Shanks: See Parts Section pages 6-6 and 6-7. To increase the force required to trip the
shank, remove item 24.
NOTE: To remove the pressure off of Item 24, loosen the 1/2" x 4 1/4" spring tightening bolts (Item 34) 20 full
turns and pry up on the outer toggle (Item 22). Be sure to completely retighten these bolts before resuming
operation.

RIPPER TRIP SHANKS

If equipped with automatic reset shanks, and a rock or obstruction is contacted the shanks will automatically trip
up and over the obstruction and automatically go back into the ground by themselves without stopping. See
Operation Tips for further instructions.
