Overview

The BDX-E1000 is the MPEG encoder unit which
encodes video and audio signals with MPEG
standards, multiplexes these compressed signals with
private data, and outputs them as a transport stream in
MPEG format.
The unit employs ISO/IEC 13818-2 standards for
coding of video signals, achieving the bit rates of 1.5
to 15 Mbps. For audio signals, it employs ISO/IEC
11172-3 standards and enables all the bit rates from 32
to 448 kbps. ISO/IEC 13818-1 standards are
employed for the multiplexing system.
All the operations of the BDX-E1000 can be variously
set and controlled from an external computer via
1)
Ethernet
(10BASE-T) or RS-232C.

Features

The unit features the following:
High quality and versatile functions
• Achieves bit rates of 1.5 to 15 Mbps with MPEG-2
video MP@ML.
• Provides all the MPEG-2 video resolutions.
• Employs the audio compression system of the MPEG-1
audio layers I (32 to 448 kbps) and II (32 to 384 kbps).
• Provides transport outputs conforming to the
MPEG-2 system.
A variety of inputs/outputs for versatile
system configurations
• Equipped with digital video (component/composite)
inputs and analog video (component/composite)
inputs as the standards.
• Equipped with digital and analog audio inputs of four
channels each as the standards (the digital inputs can
be expanded from 4 to 8 channels by using the
optional BDKP-E1002).
• Equipped with SDI monitor output and analog audio
monitor output, which enable monitoring of the
decoding results of both video and audio signals.
• Enables bit-stream output selected from DVB (Digital
Video Broadcasting) parallel, DVB serial and SDDI
(Serial Digital Data Interface).
• Equipped with two DVB serial/SDDI outputs as the
standards to permit an additional multiplexer to be
used for backup.
• Equipped with Ethernet (control/private data) and
RS-232C connectors as the standards for control and
data interface.

Applicable to transmission of material,
including station-to-station transmission
Low Delay mode is available by using in combination
with the BDX-D1000 MPEG Decoder Unit, enabling
transmission with a delay of up to 7 frames.
V-blanking signal transmission
Use with the BDX-D1000 enables transmission of V-
blanking signals with DVB Teletext, Closed Caption
and VITC (or LTC).
• VITC/UB: The BDX-E1000 and BDX-D1000
transport VITC and user's bit information specified
by SMPTE 12M with each frame using the user's
data area on the video stream. The system specified
by MPEG to transport only the time data with each
GOP is not supported.
• Closed Caption: When transporting Closed Caption,
use the optional BDKP-E1003 4:2:2P upgrade board
in "with VBI" mode that expands the image coding
area in 4:2:2P@ML encoding under the following
conditions.
– All the lines other than those for VITC and Closed
Caption must be in blanking status.
– The video transmission rate must be the following:
4:2:2P@ML with VBI: 8 Mbps or more
4:2:2P@ML Low Delay with VBI: 10 Mbps or more
4:2:2P@ML All I Frame with VBI: 20 Mbps or more
• DVB Teletext: DVB Teletext is transmitted as data
according to the DVB standards.
Additional functions with optional boards
• When the BDKP-E1003 is installed:
– 4:2:2P@ML encoding (1.5 to 50 Mbps)
– Encoding in All I Frame mode, ideal for frame-by-
frame editing.
– The local decoder for monitoring built into the
BDKP-E1003 enables monitoring in MP@ML as
well as 4:2:2P@ML.
• When the BDKP-E1004/E1005 is installed:
Scramble processing of DVB common format or DES
format is enabled.
Improved serviceability and easier
maintenance
• Sends reports on encoded information to the host
computer.
• Has a built-in PCMCIA card slot for maintenance,
including program upgrading.
