Control Panel
The HP Vectra VE 5/xx series 2 PC has a control panel with the following features:
a power on/off button
a power on status light (which flickers in power-saving mode)
a hard disk activity light (for IDE drives).
Security Features
The PC has the following security features:
power-on prompt, with administratorand/or user password
power-on keyboard lock, with user password
communications port protection (ports can be disabled in SETUP)
write protection of flexible disk drives
disabling or enabling flexible disk drive
disabling or enabling boot on hard disk drive
disabling or enabling boot on flexible disk drive
disabling or enabling boot on CD-ROM
system configuration protection, with administrator password
disabling or enabling space bar power-on
cover lock
a security bracket.
Communications Ports
The PC has the following external communications ports:
One 25-pin parallel port (ECP/EPP bi-directional Centronics supporting IEEE 1284)
Two 9-pin serial ports (16550-compatible).

HP Vectra PCs are not supported as servers.
Pre-loaded Software
The first time the PC is turned on, a software initialization program runs to allow the user to set
up the pre-installed software. For the models with Windows 95, the user has a once-only
choice between Windows 95 and Windows 3.11 during the first power-on.
Models with hard disk drives are supplied with the following pre-loaded software and drivers:
