Basically we recommend to set up the devices separately and to do the basic stack configuration by CLI/console
o
115200 baud
o
8 parity bits (8)
o
No parity (N)
o
1 Stopbit (1)
-
Login into the device and change into the „enable" mode by typing
o
Enable
-
Afterwards change into the configuration mode to do the stack configuration
o
configure terminal
-
Choose 2-port or 4-port Stacking mode, depending on your setup
o
stack bandwith 2-port
o
stack bandwith 4-port
-
define the priority of the dedicated unit within the stack
o
the Unit with the highest priority = lowest number will become Master
o
stack 1 priority 5
the Stack Number 1 (Switch 1 of the max. 4) get the priority 5
-
if required (we recommend) to renumber all units to their dedicated number within your stack, since this
will define which interface/port is assigned
o
stack 1 renumber 2
current stack ID 1 will become 2 after reboot
this you should do at f.e. unit 2,3 & 4

enabling the stacking mode by
o
stack
-
leave the configuration mode
o
exit
-
save the current settings
o
copy running-config startup-config
-
reboot the switch to activate the settings
o
reboot
After successful settings and reboot of all switches, you can connect them with the stacking cables.
Wait some minutes, until the stack has been stabilized, then connect to the Master-Unit (LCD = H & 1)

login again into "enable" mode and check the stacking status
o
show stack
-
save the current settings again for the whole stack now, so that all configuration as of now is persistent
on all switches within the stack
o
copy running-config startup-config
