TOSHIBA DVD PLAYER features and instructions are also explained in

Restrictions on TOSHIBA DVD PLAYER with upconvert feature
When upconvert feature is enabled, titles that can be played and/or
features that can be used are limited.
Upconvert feature plays video using "TOSHIBA Quad Core HD
Processor"
Upconvert feature cannot be used when other application is using
"TOSHIBA Quad Core HD Processor"
Please make sure to use AC adapter when playing with up-convert
feature enabled
To view the video using upconvert feature on an external display or TV,
display device or TV with HDCP support which has a HDMI input port is
needed.
Upconvert video can be displayed only on LCD display of main body or
TV connected to HDMI output port.
The video cannot be displayed on TV connected to S-Video output
connector or external display connected to RGB connector
