They are so called because each command must be preceded by the characters AT to get the ATtention of the modem. AT commands can be issued only when the modem is in command mode or online command mode. The modem is in command mode whenever it is not connected to another modem.

With password-protected remote configuration, you can issue AT commands to a remote MT5634ZBA-USB modem for maintenance or troubleshooting as if you were on-site.

If you are unable to make a successful connection, or if you experience data loss or garbled characters during your connection, it is possible that the modem is defective. However, it is more likely that the source of your problem lies elsewhere.

    Appendix C: Loopback Tests Introduction Each time you turn on your modem, it performs an automatic self-test to ensure proper operation. Your modem also has three diagnostic tests: local analog loopback, remote digital loopback, and local digital loopback. These ITU-T V.54 loopback tests isolate telephone circuit and transmission problems.
