Drive Chain Adjustment
35 – 45 mm
(1.4 – 1.7 in)
Inspect the drive chain slack
before each use of the motorcy-
cle. The drive chain should be
adjusted for 35 – 45 mm (1.4 –
1.7 in) of slack, as shown.
 WARNING
Too much chain slack can
cause the chain to come off the
sprockets, resulting in an acci-
dent or serious damage to the
motorcycle.
Inspect and adjust the drive
chain slack before each use.
1. Loosen the axle nut 1.
2. Loosen the lock-nuts 2 and
adjust the drive chain slack to
the specification by turning the
adjusters 3. Make sure that
the right and left adjuster
washers 4 are at the same
position on scales 5.
3. With the adjusters 3 held in
position, tighten the lock-nuts
2.
4. Push the adjuster washers 4
to the adjusters 3 and tighten
the axle nut 1.
5. Recheck the chain slack after
tightening and readjust if nec-
essary.
 Rear axle nut:
100 N·m (10.2 kgf-m, 74.0 lbf-ft)
