Trouble

eliminated, but can be so
minimized as to become
negligible.
Fuzzy Grain.
Torn Grain.
Rough/Raised Grain.
Rounded, glossy
surface.
Poor feeding of lumber. Inadequate feed roller pressure.
Uneven depth of cut
side to side.
Board thickness does
not match depth of cut
scale.
Probable Cause
Table rollers not set properly.
Inadequate support of long boards.
Uneven feed roller pressure front to
back.
Dull knives.
Lumber not butted properly.
Planing wood with high moisture
content.
Dull knives.
Too heavy a cut.
Knives cutting against grain.
Dull knives.
Dull knives.
Too heavy a cut.
Moisture content too high.
Dull knives.
Feed speed too slow.
Cutting depth too shallow.
Planer bed rough or dirty.
Transmission v-belt slipping.

Remedy
Adjust rollers to proper height
Support long boards with extension
rollers.
Adjust feed roller tension.
Sharpen knives/Rotate knife inserts.
Butt end to end each piece of stock as
they pass through.
Remove high moisture content from
wood by drying.
Sharpen or replace/Rotate knife
inserts.
Adjust proper depth of cut.
Cut along the grain.
Sharpen knives/Rotate knife inserts.
Sharpen knives/Rotate knife inserts.
Adjust proper depth.
Remove high moisture content from
