Changing Oil
Note: Change oil every 50 hours or every 25 hours if operating under
heavy load or in high temperatures.
1. Move unit to flat, level surface.
2. With engine OFF but still warm, disconnect spark plug wire (A) to
prevent accidental starting. See FIG 1.

3. (If you have a bottom or side drain) Remove oil drain plug from bottom
(B) or side (C) of engine and drain oil into an approved container.
Replace drain plug after all oil has been drained. See FIG 2.

OR
Remove dipstick and tip engine to drain oil out of dipstick tube into an
approved container. Important: Make sure fuel tank is empty and keep
spark plug end of engine UP while tipping engine.
4. Remove dipstick and wipe with clean cloth.
5. Slowly pour entire contents of supplied oil (18 oz.) into the oil fill tube.
See FIG 3.
6. Wait one minute, then replace and fully tighten dipstick.
7 . Remove dipstick and check oil level. It should read at FULL mark.
8. Replace and tighten dipstick.
9. Reconnect spark plug wire to spark plug.

WARNING
Gasoline and its vapors are extremely
flammable and explosive.
Fire or explosion can cause severe burns or
death.
If you drain the oil from the top oil fill tube, the
fuel tank must be empty or fuel can leak out
and result in a fire or explosion.
CAUTION: Used oil is a hazardous waste product and must
be disposed of properly. Do not discard with household
waste. Check with your local authorities, service center, or
dealer for safe disposal/recycling facilities.
Changing Spark Plug
Note: Replace spark plug after 100 hours or every
season.
1. Disconnect spark plug wire.
2. Remove old spark plug and discard.
3. Check gap (A) of new spark plug with wire gauge
(B). See FIG 4.
4. Reset gap, if necessary to 0.030 in (0.76 mm).
5. Install and tighten new spark plug to 180 lb-in (20
Nm).
Changing Air Filter
Note: Replace foam air filter every 25 hours or every
season, more often if operating under dusty conditions.
1. Remove screw (A) on air cleaner. See FIG 5.
2. Carefully remove air cleaner to prevent debris from
falling into carburetor.
3. Take air cleaner apart and clean all parts.
4. Saturate new foam air filter in engine oil. Squeeze in a
clean cloth to remove excess oil.
Caution: The foam air filter must be oiled or engine
damage will occur.
5. Insert foam air filter and cup, if equipped, in air cleaner
base.
6. Install air cleaner securely on carburetor and tighten
screw.
Adding Fuel Stabilizer
Note: Fuel can become stale when stored over 30 days. Use fuel stabilizer to keep fuel fresh.
1. Add supplied fuel stabilizer to fuel in fuel tank or fuel can.
2. Run engine for 2 minutes to circulate stabilizer throughout fuel system.
Note: The included fuel stabilizer packet treats up to 2-1/2 gallons of fuel. Visit your local Briggs & Stratton
service center for the larger 4.2 oz. bottle (part no. 5041), which treats up to 10 gallons of fuel.
