Test Procedures
TEST PROCEDURE 21 – Fuel Gauge
See General Warnings on page 1-1.
NOTE: This is a voltage test.

1.
If necessary, see Testing Basics.
2.
Disable the vehicle.
3.
Remove the instrument panel to gain access to the back of the fuel gauge/hour meter.
4.
Place a sheet of insulating material between the front frame and the electrical connections on the rear of the
instrument panel to prevent contact between the two.
5.
Disconnect the purple wire (1) from the fuel gauge/hour meter (Figure 18-22, Page 18-36).

6.
Set a multimeter to 20 VDC.
7.
Put the red (+) probe of the multimeter on the positive post of the battery.
8.
Put the black (–) probe on the negative post of the battery. Record the voltage reading.
9.
Put the red (+) probe on terminal 2 of the fuel gauge/hour meter with the red/white wire (2) connected.
