1. Using a stud finder, previously marked locations, or
other similar method, locate the stud pocket where
the recessed shelf will be installed.
2. Mark the wall panel with the stud locations, as
shown. A standard height for the recessed shelf
would be 43" from the shower floor to the bottom of
the opening

Installation Procedure
3. Mark the measurements, as shown, for the cut out
onto the wall panel. Try to center the opening in the
stud pocket. The wall stud opening shown is 16" on
center, which creates a 14-1/2" opening.

Make sure no electrical wiring or
plumbing is present inside the wall
cavity before cutting the opening for the
recessed shampoo shelf.

4. Place masking tape over the surface of the panel to
protect it against scratching when the hole is cut.
5. Drill a pilot hole through the panel and cement
board. A 3/8" drill bit will normally be large enough
to insert the sabre saw blade.

When cutting the panel, use a dust
collection method which prevents dust
particles from going into the air. Always
work in a well-ventilated area. Always
use an OSHA approved dust mask when cutting
Swanstone products.
