Getting Started
Preparing for the Installation
Alcat el-Lucent Ent erprise product s must be inst alled by a prof essional inst aller. It is t he responsibilit y of
t he inst aller t o comply wit h product specif icat ions and all appl icable local and nat ional codes.
When preparing f or inst allat ion, unpack t he product as close as possible t o t he locat ion where it will
be inst alled.

Elevated Operating Ambient Temperature
If inst alled in a closed or mult i-rack assembly, t he operat ing ambient t emperat ure of t he rack
environment may be great er t han t he room' s ambient t emperat ure. Theref ore, considerat ion should be
given t o t he maximum rat ed ambient t emperat ure (Tmra). When operat ing at 74° C ambient
t emperat ure t he swit ch must be inst al led in a suit able closed rack or cabinet enclosure.
Reduced Air Flow
Inst allat ion of t he equipment shoul d be such t hat t he amount of air f low required f or saf e operat ion of
t he equipment is not compromised. Ref er t o

f or more inf ormat ion.
Mechanical Loading
Mount ing of t he equipment in t he rack should be such t hat a hazardous condit ion is not achieved due t o
uneven loading.
Circuit Overloading
Considerat ion should be given t o t he connect ion of t he equipment t o t he supply circuit and t he ef f ect
t hat overloading of circuit s could have on overcurrent prot ect ion and supply wiring. Appropriat e
considerat ion of equipment nameplat e rat ings should be used when addressing t his concern.
Reliable Earthing
Reliable eart hing of rack mount ed equipment should be maint ained. Part icular at t ent ion should be given
t o supply connect ions ot her t han direct connect ions t o t he branch (e. g. , use of power st rips).
