Introduction

1. Introduction
Nivotester FTC 4xx capacitive limit switches can be used in
conjunction with capacitive probes for level detection in liquids
and solids. The two models described in this manual are:
• Nivotester FTC 420: basic version.
• Nivotester FTC 421: with adjustable switching delay.
Nivotester FTC 420 and 421 capacitive limit switches can be used
for a variety of purposes in areas not subject to explosion risk, e.g.,
for overspill protection, pump protection and level monitoring - see
also Technical Information TI 127.

Measuring system

A typical measuring system, see Fig. 1, comprises:
• the Nivotester FTC 420 or 421,
• the EC 61 Z electronic insert for installation in the probe head
and
• a probe, suitable for the medium to be measured
A variety of probes are available for use with the Nivotester limit
switches. Endress+Hauser will be pleased to advise you on
special applications.
