Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 2.1.2 300 V Point For an illustration of how the unit is used as part of the high voltage interface, see the diagram below.
Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 Installing The HVI should be located on the grid of the site. This installation location should also be located so as to provide easy access for maintenance. The equipment utilized in this manual is designed to isolate energies, that is, it does not shunt or route damaging energy to a grounding field.
HVI Placement HVI Placement 3.2.1 Placement Selection The location selected for the HVI must take into account several items. Room for the HVI and related equipment. Location where the CO or dedicated cable enters building. Location and length of the grid ground connection. Elimination of all telephone equipment on the entrance cable.
Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 300 Volt Point Location 3.3.1 Cable Shields The 300 V point for an installation is defined by the electrical parameters of the substation. This is the point where the Ground Potential Rise of the site is reduced to 300 V or less.
Cable Pair Protectors These units, if utilized, are provided to protect against conductor to conductor voltage imbalance on the CO side of the Positron Equipment. Imbalances may be present as a result of induction effects and or other energy sources during a power system fault.
Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 HVI Equipment Layout - Concept All equipment that is subject to the effects of the remote ground aspect of the site is grouped and located the High Voltage Side and the Low Voltage side of the HVI enclosure.
HVI Equipment Layout - Concept stood upon. Therefore care should be taken when handling circuit equipment and or wiring. The Teleline equipment is designed to isolate the personnel and equipment from the effects of the high and the low voltage condition of this site. 3.4.3 Cable Routing CO Side Non-Metallic Conduit The CO Cable should be routed to the HVI utilizing a nonmetallic conduit.
Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 Installation Procedures and Sequence The following sequence of procedures should be followed to insure a safe and easy installation. If the splicing of the dedicated cable to the general use cable is started AUTION or accomplished early in the designed work sequence, a safety hazard will exist.
If it is necessary to create additional openings, for instructions contact Positron. (For contact information see section 1.3.1 on page 10.) This also assumes that the orientation of the cabinet on the mounting surface will be as shown in the provided drawings.
Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 High Voltage Interface Cabinet Overview Due to the Fault exposure hazard that exists when the cabinet is opened the AUTION following rules apply: It is not recommended to work on or come in contact with the lightning arrestor during inclement weather.
Page 31
High Voltage Interface Cabinet Overview When working on the station side of the interface: AUTION AC and DC power may be present with the cabinet. It is used to power communications equipment and environmental equipment. Since this equipment is energized on a full period basis, normal working procedures for powered circuits and devices should be followed when working on these same circuits and devices.
Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 Placement Review the plan view drawing for the equipment to be installed. Any problems associated with the placement of this equipment must be addressed before work is commenced. Before work is started confirm that: The supporting structure is adequate to support the cabinet.
Placement 3.7.3 Terminated Power Conductors on the Shelf An internal Power Supply Card model 751313MC will be used for this shelf. Therefore, 120 Vac or 129 Vdc must be supplied to the shelf via the power cable provided. The power supply card itself operates from either 120 Vac or 129 Vdc. Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 Ground Wire This cabinet must be connected to the substation grid ground. Provisions have been made for connecting the cabinet to ground via the provided ground bar located in the lower right hand area of the cabinet. See drawing 751960/13. The lightning arrestor, 751112 shelf, and the secondary protector block are connected to this same ground bar.
Ground Wire through the interface block. These modules are installed to prevent damage to the Teleline module in the event that an unbalance voltage condition appears across the tip and ring conductors of a station cable pair. In the event one of the protector modules fails, it will fail shorted to ground and should be replaced.
Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 3.9.5 Terminated Teleline and NIU Shelf Pairs on 5 Pin Protector Block The design of this HVI incorporates a NIU terminating shelf. Wiring to that shelf has been accomplished from the Teleline shelf to the NIU unit. For details of that wiring see Table 13 on page 44.

Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 Thermal Calculations Calculating the temperature inside the HVI Cabinet 1- Add the power dissipation of all the NIU cards inside the Hyperedge shelf at 4W per NIU card (maximum of four cards). 2- Divide the resulting power by 0.89 to account for the efficiency of the power supply.
Thermal Calculations Calculating the temperatures in case of fan failure 1- To calculate the maximum temperature inside the cabinet and Teleline shelf in the event of a fan failure, repeat the above procedure but replace the numbers detailed below. 2- In step 6, replace 0.06 with 0.207ºF/W (0.115ºC/W). 3- In step 7, replace 0.04 with 0.117ºF/W (0.065ºC/W).
Teleline HVI Single 5-card Shelf Cabinet, model 751960/13CU5 Card Insertion After all thermal considerations have been taken into account, insert the cards into the shelf and close and secure the cover with the nuts supplied. To close the cover properly, you must first secure the bottom of the cover before joining the holes with their respective screws.
