(-MDM) Modem Option Connections
Connection to the 9700 Power Meter-MDM internal modem is made via an
RJ-11 jack located on the top of the meter. An FCC compliant telephone
cord is provided that has two male RJ-11 plugs. Connect the meter to your
telephone network using the cable provided (if you use a different cable,
ensure that it is FCC Part 68 compliant).
If your 9700 Power Meter has the –MDMC option (captured-wire connector),
connect the meter to your telephone network using the RJ-11 to bare-wire
cable provided.
Use the MGT to configure the Baud Rate and Unit ID of the COM1
Communications module. You must use WinPM software to configure the
modem-initialization strings. Any changes to the Modem Init or Baud Rate
setup registers while the modem is online will cause the modem to
disconnect from the phone line.
RJ11 Pin Assignments
The following diagram shows the pin assignments of a male RJ11
connector.
If you ordered the –MDMC option, a cable is supplied with an RJ11
connector on one end, and bare wire on the other. Attach the bare wire end
of the telephone cable to the LINE TIP and LINE RING captured wire
connector slots. If you ordered the –MDMC option, the bare wire
connectors attached to the RJ11 connector are color coded as follows:
♦ 8MT
Typically a green or white-bodied wire with a colored stripe.
♦ 6MRK
Typically a red wire or a colored wire (blue, orange, green,
brown, etc.) with a white stripe.
